The Man of Steel Returns to Our Screens

With fans eagerly awaiting the new Superman film, the director gave us a new glimpse. James Gunn released our first look at David Corenswet as the Man of Steel.

Our First Look at the New Film

According to IGN, Warner Bros. released a new image of the upcoming film Superman (formerly titled Superman: Legacy) directed by Gunn. The image depicts Cornswent in costume as the titular hero. In the background, a giant laser of unknown origin fires off into the sky. As for the suit itself, it combines the vibrant colors of the comics with the live-action detail of the Snyder films. With the film over a year away, audiences don’t know when their next preview will come. The film will be released on July 11, 2025.

Who’s Involved in This Film?

Countless creators and actors are attached to the project. Gunn will direct the film, director of the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy and 2021’s The Suicide Squad. Corenswet himself is a fairly new talent, only rising to fame through the streaming series The Politician and Hollywood. However, his ability to rise to such a role quickly proves his talent. Other recently confirmed actors include Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern, Isabel Merced as Hawkgirl, and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorphol. With such a star-studded cast, this film holds a strong chance at success.

Superman Returns

Superman will serve as the first entry in DC’s new DCU. Last year, the DC Extended Universe ended after a decade of underwhelming and poorly received films. Furthermore, the character of Superman has been heavily deconstructed in recent years, with darker copies such as Homelander from The Boys and Omni-Man from Invincible. However, Gunn confirmed that this new Superman takes influence from the All-Star Superman comics, a series that reconstructed the character of Superman after years of gritty realism. With Gunn’s signature style, this film itself may redeem DC after the failure of the DCEU and even overcome the MCU itself.
