Stephen (German: Stefan) (23 June 1385 - 14 February 1459) was the Count Palatine of Simmern and Zweibrücken from 1410 until 1459.
Life[]
Stephen was born in 1385 as the fifth son of King Rupert III, Elector Palatine and Elizabeth of Nuremberg. After his father's death in 1410, his lands were partitioned between his four surviving sons: Stephen received the County of Zweibrücken (elevated to a duchy through the Wittelsbach's title) and the territory around Simmern. In 1410 he married Anne of Veldenz, and after her death in 1439 and her father's (Count Frederick III) Stephen inherited the County of Veldenz. In the same year he divided his territories between his sons Frederick and Louis. In 1448 after the death of his brother John, he inherited one half of Palatinate-Neumarkt and purchased the other half from his brother Otto.
Stephen died in Simmern in 1459.
