President and First Lady Biden will make an appearance on this year's Stand Up To Cancer Special. The pair, who have a personal connection to cancer, will be on hand to help the organization celebrate 15 years of service.

Stand Up To Cancer has raised over $700 million for cancer research since it was founded in 2008. That research has helped develop nine cancer therapies approved by the FDA.

A number of celebrities will join the Bidens at this year's event as everyone works to raise money to continue the organization's mission.

What is the 2023 Stand Up To Cancer Special?

Each year, Stand Up To Cancer airs a special that assists with the organization's fundraising. The 2023 special will also celebrate the 15th anniversary of the organization's inception.

According to a press-release, the one-hour show, called “How It Started, How It's Going,” will "celebrate 15 years of cutting-edge cancer research and highlight special moments with stars from film, television, sports and journalism who have supported the SU2C movement. The show will also feature renowned SU2C-funded cancer scientists, who will discuss the progress being made in the fight against cancer and the critical need to continue to fund life-saving research. In addition, there will be touching stories from cancer survivors who have received breakthrough treatments supported by SU2C."

When does the Stand Up To Cancer Special come on?

The special airs on Saturday, Aug. 19, at 8 p.m. ET. 

How do I watch the Stand Up To Cancer Special?

The special will air across 50 platforms in the U.S. and Canada, including all four major broadcast networks in the States. It will also stream on Disney+, Hulu, Max, Peacock and Showtime.

Why is President Joe Biden going to the Stand Up To Cancer Special?

Both President and First Lady Biden have a long history with Stand Up To Cancer. Then Vice President Biden first spoke at a Stand Up To Cancer event in 2016 after his son Beau Biden died from brain cancer in 2015.

The Bidens will be at the event to speak about their support of cancer research through the Biden Cancer Moonshot, which is intended to "mobilize a national effort to end cancer as we know it."

In the event's press release, Stand Up To Cancer president Russell Chew explained, "The President and First Lady’s unwavering work to address some of the most challenging aspects of cancer research reinforces the incredible progress being made and will no doubt lead to many more breakthroughs in the years to come."

Chew continued, "Stand Up To Cancer is exceedingly grateful for their participation in this year’s telecast; our shared hope to help more people affected by cancer to survive, and thrive, is the steadfast focus needed to end cancer as we know it."
