the town was a center for linoleum production and this is a fair recognition of that mportant piece of local history.

I should keep it a secret but...it's a wonderful park for everyone. Dogs, bikes, kids, tennis, runners, loungers. Unwelcome with a great cafe too. Water park is open, free for kids and a cheap day out.

Have visited twice recently and found the staff very friendly and helpful. Food was typical weatherspoons, good price. Florian, the Duty Manager gave us very good service on both occasions.

We went for a Boxing Day walk on Staines Moor and were amazed to see 8 Short Eared Owls out hunting on the very soggy moor. At this time of year wellies are a must as it was very squelchy walking around and some paths were completely flooded.

Located within the Staines library I was surprised about the content - certainly exceeding expectations. Starting with the time when dinosaurs were the key inhabitants of the area up to the present day there are plenty of exhibits (including the London Stone) and interesting, easy to read, information displays. This part can be accessed 6 days a week during normal library opening hours. --- A real gem however is the adjacent Thames Room, providing plenty more exhibits - incl. a beautifully set up 'shop' from Roman times with lots of artefacts. It also includes a little shop where one can buy a few souvenirs, local history books and postcards. No kitsch!!! During my visit it was 'manned' by 2 very friendly ladies - I understand that the whole museum is run by volunteers only. One has to be aware - and I was told by the ladies when saying that I certainly would like to return for a more intense study - that the Thames Room is only open for 2 hours on Wednesday and Friday from 2-4pm and on Saturdays. A hidden gem - go and visit, it's amazing!

A wonderful open water lake in a beautiful setting. It has all the facilities you may need without being overdeveloped or commercialised. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is more that of a summer lake party than of a commercial venture. There are lifeguard canoes paddling in the water and Dogs are allowed on the site. Very friendly, our favourite lake. One tip, avoid the M25 as the approach to Junction 13 is very slow. We find coming off at J5 on the M4 and going through Datchet and Waybury a much cleare route.

Apparently there are dozens of holy wells from medieval times all over the country and they are all named after St Anne who was the mother of virgin Mary and grandmother of Jesus. This one (according to the sign) provided water and had healing properties unlike some that were cursed. It is located in Stanwell so I guess it provided locals more than just water. It is locked inside a metal door and there is no indication from outside that its an historic site except just one small hard to read sign.

Back then pilgrims used to travel to such sites to baptise their youngs and to bath/drink the holy water to heal and wash away their sins. Maybe it has served its purpose by healing everyone around before running dry.

Mineral rich natural springs are found all over the world that contain calcium, potassium, magnesium, sulphur etc. Now we have all these healing properties aka chemicals added to our water by suppliers to strengthen our belief system so the use of holy well is no longer required.

Small railway station outside of London and on route to Weybridge . Not much there really and not something I would stop to see.
