Audience Member A sleek, unpretentious, breezy Bronson caper. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review delysid d slightly boring charles bronson film Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/27/18 Full Review dave j Tuesday, September 2, 2014 (1976) St. Ives MYSTERY SUSPENSE It's supposed to be Charles Bronson's variation of "Chinatown" directed by J. Lee Thompson, the first of 8 movies with the actor. Adapted from the Ross Thomas novel starring Bronson as crime writer, Raymond 'ST. Ives' being hired as the middle man to pay an unknown extortionist to return some incriminating journals stolen from wealthy businessman, Abner Procane (John Houseman). It's supposed to be a cinch right- wrong. The person St. Ives was supposed to meet which was at the dry cleaners has been found dead, pointing the culprit to be anyone. There's not enough Bronson sarcastic humor to keep this movie interesting. It also lacks action as well as some common sense. 2 out of 4 stars Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member It's not the worst Charles Bronson movie..not the best either..still it's okay for a 70's noir style film. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Thompson and Bronson team up, are hurt by weak script--Nice change of pace, great fun for any Bronson-fan!! Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Chinatown reworking in modern clothes, at least modern when the film was made, is an okay film but the original is superior in every department. Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times St. Ives is an ambitious Charles Bronson picture that looks good but finally doesn't quite work. Rated: 2/4 Oct 23, 2004 Full Review Steve Warren The Barb (Atlanta) The mystery, impossible to follow, is kinda fun; but Bronson, who's asked to carry the picture, sinks under the weight that's placed on his shoulders. May 9, 2023 Full Review David Nusair Reel Film Reviews St. Ives‘ growing emphasis on its complicated, convoluted plot slowly-but-surely drains the viewer’s interest... Rated: 2/4 Apr 20, 2023 Full Review Dennis Schwartz Dennis Schwartz Movie Reviews The great cinematographer Lucien Ballard provides rich locale shots of an L.A. that looks unprepared for a noir film in color. Rated: C+ Aug 25, 2022 Full Review Jacoba Atlas Los Angeles Free Press It's all very slick, entertaining and undemanding. Oct 30, 2019 Full Review Richard T. Jameson Parallax View This movie is so bad that when the convoluted action takes us to a drive-in movie the same film clips can be glimpsed four times... Oct 22, 2011 Full Review Read all reviews
