One of the most photographed structures in Krakow is St Florians Gate.
Constructed in 1307 and once connected to the wonderful Krakow Barbican, this defensive gate, one of seven such gates that formed part of the defensive walls of the city is a great example of Gothic architecture, its a fabulous looking structure that in my opinion is best viewed at night when illuminated, its most definitely well worth checking out if you're in the Old Town of Krakow and easy to locate along Ulica Florianska arguably the most beautiful street in Krakow.

Very nice architecture, good shawarma and nice people, but if you dont know already you cannot drink beer in public. As austrians we would have never expected this to be illegal, but you will be fined around 21€.

Though St. Florian Gate is not a huge place but it has it own beauty. The tower wall and park surrounding the main square. When I was there, they were celebrating an annual event thus a huge tourist bonus. I got to see a procession of group wearing historical clothing and also orchestra playing.

Attractive but you walk up to it, under it then back again… still worth popping over for a photo though.

The St Florians Gate is further to the old city than the Barbican fortress - it is the real city gate once you had entered through the fortress.
It was built in the Middle Ages to prevent attacks from outside enemies; and named after the saint who is also the namesake of the church a bit further north.
Krakow used to have 47 towers in the walls; of which only 3 remains today.
The inside of the gate has a small chapel dedicated to the Madonna; but most interesting are the small ornaments found in the ground on the exterior if the gate - absolutely impossible to find an explanation for these?
Today it marks a beautiful entry to the medieval part of the town - quiet paved streets.

You can start from here to walk the old coronation route to the castle I believe. Decent architecture to look at as you amble through. Nice square the other side of the road to walk around too. Not a lot to stand and stare at.

Historical gate. Take a walk and appreciate the history and atmosphere. There are artists selling paintings nearby. Otherwise there is nothing else to see but definitely worth visiting. I really enjoyed walking around and taking in the atmosphere on a busy Easter Sunday.

It is one of the places you can pass by while walking in the city centre. There is nothing wow just an old gate and there are some local painters all around.

This is a lovely gate, located at the end of Florianska street.
It was snowing as we passed through the gate, which made it even more picturesque.

Does the florianska gate lead out on to the planty circuit?

Yes. The park encircles the old town (tourist area) so you can reach Plenty Park from anywhere in the square. Florianska Gate is at the edge of the tourist area so if you go beyond it you will reach the park. Go online and see for yourself.
