Students can join St George’s at any age, subject to places being available. When a family has decided to apply for a place at the school, our registration form should be completed and returned to the Registrar. You can download this form here.

Completion of the registration form and payment of a registration fee, currently set at £75, does not guarantee a place and the registration fee is non-refundable. Siblings must be registered separately, but will take priority over other applications, provided the registration form has been received at least six months prior to the proposed date of entry to the school.

We do not undertake any formal assessments prior to joining. Instead we arrange Taster Days for our visiting child to get the feel of our school community, and we look to identify students who are able to benefit from our balanced and well-rounded education and who will make a positive contribution to the life of the School.

The importance of positive emotional wellbeing for children has been well documented recently and we recognise that this is an area that should be at the heart of everything we do.

MindUp was launched in 2003, almost a decade before many schools began to get on board with emotional wellbeing. We like its approach and its implementation across the school has brought benefits to the whole community.

As a part of this programme, the whole school has two ‘brain breaks’ every day, when a chime is rung and they are talked through two minutes of focus on their breathing. Many children are now confident enough to run the ‘brain break’ for the whole class; these occasions have been inspiring to watch.

By implementing MindUp, with its focus on emotional wellbeing, character and resilience, we are ensuring that our students are able to cope with the demands placed upon them, build up strategies to thrive in a world of growing expectations (societal, social media, etc.) and are comfortable with who they are.

St George’s is set within the grounds of Windsor Castle, offering a safe and private space for children to develop and learn. Tradition plays an important role in the life of St George’s, not only as a link with the past, but as a great foundation in the present. 

All St George’s students benefit from our close relationship with the College of St George, providing them with access to Windsor Castle as a resource for learning. This includes use of the Royal Library and time in the Learning Centre for workshops, supporting topics covered in English, History and Science. Students have frequent access to the Castle facilities via the school’s private steps and the Castle grounds are used for various co-curricular events.

Fortnightly services, well-attended by parents, are held in St George’s Chapel and St George’s students really benefit from being able to extend learning outside of the classroom and into this wonderful place on a regular basis. 

The school provides weekly and flexi-boarding for girls and boys from Year 4 to Year 8. We foster outstanding parent/school relationships and encourage communication between home and the boarding house. As well as benefiting from access to Home Park Private, the location of the school enables older boarders to build their independence by visiting Windsor town centre, while junior boarders are accompanied into Windsor by House Parents to buy tuck one night a week.

A team of residential staff organise activities throughout the week including spa nights, Quidditch, falconry display teams, bowling and visits to Windsor Castle. Unless students are taking part in seasonal concerts or tournaments, there is no requirement for students to attend Saturday school, which allows for some quality family time.

The school is proud of its students’ outstanding achievements. The school works closely with each family to prepare students for entry into their chosen senior school. Students move on to a variety of different senior schools including Benenden, Downe House, Eton College, Hampton School, Harrow School, Radley College, Reading Blue Coat School, St George’s Ascot, St George’s Weybridge, Tonbridge School, Wellington College and Windsor schools.

We believe Performing Arts to be crucial to a young person’s development, confidence and exposure to a broad curriculum. St George’s has a flourishing music and drama faculty, and of course has a strong musical heritage stretching back almost 700 years.

In addition to class music and drama, students have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument, take part in a number of choirs and ensembles and enjoy a range of performance opportunities. Many students decide to take LAMDA and Trinity Guildhall drama lessons, and an ambitious production programme is put on for all students across the school. In 2021-2022, these shows included a performance of Treasure Island, by Year 6, and an ambitious performance of As You Like It, by Years 7 and 8.

We provide our students with an enormous breadth of opportunities, with high quality teaching. They have at least three hours of timetabled sport each week and over 40 sporting co-curricular activities throughout the year to choose from. Our four full-time specialist teachers of Physical Education, plus a team of specially appointed external coaches, strive to deliver the very best in sports teaching. Our sports field is the envy of the circuit, with our home fixtures taking place in Home Park Private, within the walls of Windsor Castle, which towers overhead. Everyone also loves the brand new pavilion in Home Park Private.

We strongly believe in ‘Sport for All’ and every student from Years 3 – 8 will represent the school in fixtures each week with other prep schools. We want all our students to experience the camaraderie of playing in a team, to learn to win with humility and to lose with grace. Therefore, regardless of ability, our students will represent the school in football, rugby, cricket, netball, hockey or rounders every week. Our physical education lessons include swimming in our indoor pool, athletics, indoor rowing, tennis, gymnastics, table-tennis, music and movement, orienteering and personal survival.

We have a number of students who excel at county, academy and national level. We strive to recognise talented students and ensure they make the most of their potential. In recent years, St George’s have been U11 IAPS Small Schools National Netball Champions, U13 Independent Schools National Football Finalists and National Fencing Finalists at Millfield. One of our students won the U11 County 100m butterfly Championships, we have had National Success at Prep Schools Athletics Finals and have represented the school at National Cross-Country and National Junior Indoor Rowing events.

We offer an after school programme consisting of over 80 different activities throughout the year. Whilst most students choose to take part in the more usual sports clubs and choirs on at least one evening a week, there is a wide range of other, more unusual activities such as Scuba Diving and Water Sports, Golf Academy (run by a golf professional), Fencing, Judo and Rowing (both indoor and on the river).  Science and Astronomy always draw a crowd, thanks to our hugely passionate Head of Science, who holds regular star-gazing evenings for both students and parents.

Brickies (storytelling with a LEGO theme and an architectural purpose) and Scrumys (introducing the core elements of rugby) are also popular amongst our younger students. A comprehensive Ballet and Dance programme is open to all, and students continue to achieve excellent results from the LAMDA programme. ICT, Gardening Club, Gymnastics, Chess, Design & Technology and Cooking and Baking are all regularly attended.
