FSU has completed its spring practice and all eyes are now turned to the 2024 college football season. It was an important time for Mike Norvell and the Seminoles as they worked to get their 38 newcomers adjusted to being at Florida State.
That includes several projected starters, including DJ Uiagalelei, Roydell Williams, Malik Benson, and TJ Ferguson. The spring practice provided important information about what the roster looks like and any remaining needs they have ahead of the season. After the annual Spring Showcase, we now have more information about the team and how the depth chart will look for the coming season.
With Spring Showcase behind us, here is an updated projection for the offensive depth chart ahead of the 2024 season.
Quarterback
- DJ Uiagalelei
- Brock Glenn
Uiagalelei gives the Seminoles an experienced quarterback to lead the room as the young core of Glenn and Luke Kromenhoek continue to develop. Uiagalelei showcased his impressive arm during spring and his ability to take deep shots is worth building around.
Running Back
- Roydell Williams
- Caziah Holmes
Both running backs flashed during the Spring Showcase, ripping off impressive touchdown runs. FSU has a stable of running backs available and the running game looks to be in a great place despite the loss of Trey Benson to the NFL.
Tailback
- Lawrance Toafili
- Jaylin Lucas
Toafili is one of FSU’s top returning players on either side of the ball and Norvell believes he could be playing the best football of his career. Lucas has the versatility to play all along the offense but is also capable of lining up in the backfield like a traditional tailback, expect his speed to lead to several explosive plays.
Tight End
- Kyle Morlock
- Jackson West/Landen Thomas
Morlock enters the season as the clear No. 1 tight end even if you would like his to be more consistent, even though he has flashed his ability. West is a great blocker and that’s where he will contribute most, an area in which Morlock is weaker.
Thomas is coming but is not yet ready yet as a true freshman.
Wide Receiver
- Malik Benson
- Darion Williamson
Benson showed that he could be Florida State’s No. 1 wide receiver in the Spring Showcase but unfortunately suffered an injury. While he should be fine by the start of the season, it was still a disappointing way to end the spring for him. The spot behind his is open but Williamson has the experience to contribute.
Wide Receiver
- Hykeem Williams
- Kentron Poitier
This is more of a 1a and 1b situation as neither Williams nor Poitier were able to separate during spring practices. Williams flashed his potential but has struggled with consistency and Poitier was never able to cement himself as the top option. Both will see plenty of playing time.
Slot Wide Receiver
- Ja’Khi Douglas
- Destyn Hill
Douglas is FSU’s top returning wide receiver and a capable player out of the slot. It is wide open behind him and while Hill is coming off a spring injury, his upside could make him a difference-maker when he is healthy.
Left Tackle
- Darius Washington
- Jaylen Early
FSU knows it has a dependable tackle in Washington and they can move him to guard or center if someone goes down. Early needs to continue to add weight in strength but has shown promise.
Left Guard
- TJ Ferguson
- Bryson Estes
Ferguson has looked like a great addition since coming over from Alabama and still has plenty of room to develop. Estes is pushing Ferguson and is starting to look like someone who is ready for some significant playing time.
Center
- Maurice Smith
- Wahington
Smith is another dependable piece for Florida State along the offensive line, the only question is if he can stay healthy for an entire season. The depth behind him is unproven but Washington would likely kick inside if needed.
Right Guard
- Richie Leonard
- Keiondre Jones
Leonard looks like the clear starter here even if there should be a healthy rotation between the two. Jones shines in run-blocking and should see plenty of action when FSU tries to establish the run.
Right Tackle
- Jeremiah Byers
- Robert Scott
Byers has the potential to be a very good right tackle but it is just a matter of putting it together. Scott missed the spring with an injury but is a good tackle when healthy.
