Spirit of the Century

In a youth-obsessed world, it’s nice to see the old folks get some belated recognition once in a while. Like the Buena Vista Social Club, the Blind Boys of Alabama (who met way back in 1939) are just now getting theirs. With an estimable backing band (including John Hammond, Charlie Musselwhite, and David Lindley) and fetching covers of songs by Ben Harper, Tom Waits, and the Stones, these gospel elders have found the fountain of youth on Spirit of the Century.
