Rogan (played by actor Nathan Jones) is reading a book titled "Tenth of December" by George Saunders. It contains the short story "Escape from Spiderhead," on which this movie is based.
Despite portraying character "Verlaine," Mark Paguio is referred to as "Mark" (the actor's real first name) the entire duration of the movie.
Laura Dern and Charles Parnell shot a scene in the film where Abnesti (Hemsworth's character) presented his ideas to a board, but the entire sequence was cut from the final film.
This marks the third collaboration between director Joseph Kosinski and actor Miles Teller, after Only the Brave (2017) and Top Gun: Maverick (2022), which was released just 3 weeks prior to this film.
This is the first Joseph Kosinski film to be rated R. His other films, TRON: Legacy (2010), Oblivion (2013), Only the Brave (2017), and Top Gun: Maverick (2022) were rated either PG or PG-13.

The reason for Jeff's (Miles Teller) imprisonment at Spiderhead is drunk driving resulting in a crash. Miles Teller often plays character that are in or nearly in car accidents. This is seen in his previous films, Bleed For This (2016), The Spectacular Now (2013), Whiplash (2014) and Rabbit Hole (2010) In some cases, it helps ease or explain the sight of the scars on his face, which he got from a car accident in real life.
