      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Spaceman's poignant themes are partly brought to life by sensitive performances from a talented cast, but it fails to consistently engage with its most interesting ideas.

      Audience Says

Spaceman definitely isn't for everybody, but it does a decent job of adapting a slow, cerebral story that's easier to engage with in print.

Robert Levin Newsday No matter how much Sandler makes the audience feel for Jakub, it can be hard to sustain an entire picture with nothing more than overarching sadness. And “Spaceman” never finds another register. Rated: 2/4 Apr 8, 2024 Full Review Tim Cogshell FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) It's a little too slow and a little too philosophical. Mar 23, 2024 Full Review Geoffrey Macnab Independent (UK) Spaceman is ultimately Sandler’s show but it’s one astronaut movie that ultimately seems very short on rocket fuel. Rated: 2/5 Mar 7, 2024 Full Review James Mottram South China Morning Post For a while, the sight of Sandler talking to a sizeable spider has its moments. But director Johan Renck (Chernobyl) does not sustain interest into the final act, with a story that gets increasingly maudlin and sentimental. Rated: 2.5/5 May 9, 2024 Full Review Filipe Freitas Always Good Movies It’s a half-interesting, half-baked illustration weighed down by a listless melancholy that sedates more than inspires. Rated: 2/5 Apr 18, 2024 Full Review Louisa Moore Screen Zealots It takes a lot of guts to attempt a screen adaptation of such an abstract science fiction / fantasy story, but director Johan Renck pulls it off, mostly with the help of a strong lead performance from Adam Sandler. Christophe F I greatly enjoyed this movie. Many people complain about the plot being too slow or boring, but I think that if they stopped looking at their phones every 2 minutes and immersed themselves in the movie, they would appreciate it much more. I found it to be very thought provoking with fantastic cinematography and great audio direction. Adam Sandler performed his role well, even if it was a bit one dimensional. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/17/24 Full Review Amanda H I've never really been a big fan of Adam Sandler, I thought it was beautiful. the movie. I really understood and it had me thinking of my life, thoughts, and how I view the things I love. It brought tears to my eyes. Call me what you will but its was good. Very deep movie for me. I would watch it again. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/16/24 Full Review Chris F WTF?? Was it a hallucination? Was he on drugs? Was he crazy? I’m not talking about the character in the movie. I am talking about Adam Sandler. What possessed him to star in this mess? Ok, if you want to make a movie about recognizing that what is important in life is finding someone you love and staying with them, than great, make that movie. It does not require purple space dust and magical space spiders. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 05/15/24 Full Review KerryWhite's S Rating: 5/10. 59/100 Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 05/13/24 Full Review Kelly M Weird but beautiful and imaginative. Paul Dano and Sandler are great. And Carrie Mulligan is always a delight to watch. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/11/24 Full Review ZERO d Bizarre movie, but so unexpected. The plot is a little wanting, but adam sandler is great in this. The ending also is a bit 'ad astra' no definitive climax or losing of the storyline. The scenes are beautiful and the middle of the movie is quite entertaining. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/11/24 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
