Somerville High School is a school flooded with 150 year old tradition. but just like the school, the infrastructure and the administration is old and fragile. They had good resources, but no big changes to make the school better. Having a better art program would be much appreciated. Having a better counselor to student ratio would be better, especially as there is quite a big gang affiliation in the school.
My experience has been great regarding resource access, such as printers, School Supplies, Internet, and books. That is the school's strong suit. However, the worst experience I have had was with students because some do not add much and sometimes hinder the experience that my school offers, such as fighting and class distributions. I would like it if my school could reach out more and talk about the problem this causes for not only the students but the community as a whole.
My experience as a freshman student during the pandemic learning was a personal challenge especially with math. My school during the pandemic was being remodeled to update the antiquated features with problems like lead in the water and having no operating AC. My sophmore year everyone returned in-person I took chemistry and had an amazing time seeing friends and meeting teachers I've built strong realtionships with. The people in school had a difficulty to adjusting to the change, I would get non-stop emails from my high school of people breaking into violent fights in the building. I almost was punched exiting from the front entrance thankfully a teacher prevented that from ever happening. There were many non-stop emails I was shocked at the events that followed each time the school would address the issue. My school is diverse but consists of a majority Latino/Black student body. I would like to advocate for those who do not have supportive family I would like to be their support.
