In 1958, The Smurfs made their debut. Created by Belgian cartoonist, Peyo, the miniscule characters made their first appearance in comic strips before becoming the stars of cartoon shows, a successful toy line, and games.

Due to the incredible popularity of The Smurfs, the pint-sized pals also became the stars of a series of movies. But how many Smurfs movies are there?

The Smurf movies in order

To date, there are five Smurf movies. The movies include:

• Les Adventures des Schtroumpfs / The Adventures of the Smurfs (1965)
• La Flûte à six schtroumpfs / The Smurfs and the Magic Flute (1976)
• The Smurfs (2011)
• The Smurfs 2 (2013)
• Smurfs: The Lost Village (2017)

In addition to these five movies, The Smurfs have also appeared in a collection of ‘TV films’ including here are the Smurfs (1984), The Baby Smurf (1984), and Smurfquest (1986). These ‘films’ were created by editing episodes of the Smurf cartoon show together to form mini-movies.

• The Smurfs and the Magic Flute is a theatrically released movie. The film was originally released in Belgium in 1976 under the title, La Flûte à six schtroumpfs, but was re-released in the US in 1983 with an English title and English dubbing.
• The Smurfs and its sequel The Smurfs 2 are live-action movies which re-introduce the characters for a new generation.
• Smurfs: The Lost Village is a standalone animated movie.
