      Critics Consensus

A violent mess of a movie, Smokin' Aces has some Quentin Tarantino's style but not much of his wit or humor.

Craig H Hadn't seen this for over 10 years and wasn't as good as i remember, Convoluted, messy and very mediocre. Could of been so much better with such a top cast! Some cool moments and good to see Ryan Reynolds in a serious role, wish he did them more but yeah a wasted cast mostly and wouldn't watch again Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/13/24 Full Review José Darío A Some story loopholes are to be overlooked to enojoy this fun action piece. While "Smokin' Aces" may not offer much in the way of deep storytelling or character development, it more than makes up for it with its sheer entertainment value. Big Buns and bigger fun. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/27/24 Full Review Eye C What a mess they make. Gun shots
gun shots everywhere. I think that they put more that they can chew, but good ending. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/25/24 Full Review Dave C By no stretch of the imagination is this any kind of a Comedy, but it IS one hell of an Action movie! It's messy, haphazard, stressful, but carries equal amounts of thrill and tension. The style has hints of Aronofsky (RFAD), and whilst people have suggested that it is no ‘Tarantino', I think that's a good thing. In and of itself, JC has directed an interesting, slightly oddball movie with a great cast, and brilliant scriptwriting. I cannot believe I have never seen this before now, but it is one I'll watch again for sure! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/16/23 Full Review NoChance M I ENJOY this film, it's one of the best in this high concept high action film and pacing. The cast and acting is really fantastic! Really this is a one of a kind movie and shit storm of a cross roads! It's like a more extreme more violent version of the movie Crash. Bravo to the entire team. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/01/23 Full Review Donnie K One of the last true Tarantino wanna be crime flicks this is a roller coaster of violence, deception, and racial insensitivity. Ryan Reynolds runs out of bullets and throws the gun at a building, if you can get down with this logic you'll love it! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/18/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Claudia Puig USA Today It wants to be a Tarantino-esque dark comedy about gun-slinging, substance-abusing lowlifes. But instead it's a convoluted, slap-happy, humorless bloodfest. Sep 22, 2007 Full Review Brian Tallerico UGO The biggest and most unfortunate problem with Smokin' Aces is the complete lack of anyone to root for or even against. Mar 24, 2007 Full Review Melissa Anderson Time Out Not a fresh idea emerges from this risible exercise in muscle-car camerawork, squib-crazy shoot-outs and self-admiring pyrotechnics.
