A manic stage farce on multiple mirrors and roles done in Bogdanovich usual laidback style. Deeply felt, lovely imagined and acted and infused by a rare sense of genuine pleasure by all involved.
POOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTS!
her performance is a reckless tightrope walk of woefully accented genius and it’s very important to me.

Peter Bogdanovich really wants to keep reminding me of how good What's Up, Doc was. And I'll let him! I actually kind of liked this movie! It's screwy, anachronistic, and everybody seems to be acting as if they are in different movies, but the staging is so fun and Imogen Poots and Austin Pendleton are both so stellar.
Also, I dare you to not absolutely lose your mind at the last scene of this film. A glass-shattering moment that can only be met with screams. An involuntary record scratch will play in your brain.
Are you cinephiles crazy giving this a 2.8? Booo!!
She's Funny That Way is a golden, charismatic and screwy modern comedy. The script is hilarious, the storytelling is simple yet engaging, and the characters are shaped well to achieve maximum laughs. Imogen Poots is a glowing lead and she was supported by an array of fantastic comedic geniuses who knew what they’re supposed to do each time. I was laughing non stop, even on scenes when the movie doesn't intend to.
Would've given She's Funny That Way a perfect rate but no matter how amusing the plot is, the cast's prowess was underutilized. I adore this comedy yet I can't help but feel shortchanged. I want more! MORE!! (Almost deducted half a star due to Tarantino’s jump-scare).
Consciously seeking to recreate an old Hollywood vibe is the latest from Peter Bogdanovich, the refugee from the first golden age of cinephile directors who has found film work increasingly hard to find in recent years (this is his first theatrical fiction feature since 2001's The Cat's Meow). In fact, his new film is pretty hard to find as well, with an under-the-radar nationwide release (it opened on Seattle Screens with little fanfare last week at the Varsity, where it continues on a reduced schedule this week), a far cry from his generation-defining 70s masterpieces like The Last Picture Show, What's Up Doc? or Paper Moon. Combining a theatrical farce reminiscent of his 1992 film Noises Off with the cosmic…
