“Anyway, so she said a few words and I thought, ‘I can't be having this.’ I was too jealous.

“So I just stood up. And I said, ‘Michael, what can I say? Shakira’s asked me to say a few words. She said I can be rude. I love you. I know you love a bit of gossip and I know you love a dirty joke.’

Sir Michael has been married to former actress and model Shakira Caine since 1973.

“And I proceeded to tell some of my dad's jokes, but I sort of personalised them and pretended that they were about them.

“And little did I know that Tom Cruise and his team love a dirty joke and they were banging the table with laughter!” she revealed.

She went on to admit that she loved that her speech had made headlines, continuing: “One of my favourite headlines was ‘Tom Cruise missing the Oscars to attend Denise Welch’s stand up was not on my 2023 Bingo card’ - Hilarious.

“So there I was, and then I had a photo with Tom and he went, ‘Oh my God, you killed it’. So I was really chuffed.

“But I was more chuffed that Michael was proud of me. So it was really quite something to attend that birthday of one of the greatest actors of our generation and, not only to attend it, but to play a part in it as well. I was very, very honoured."

“He loves a dirty joke and so does @tomcruise it appears!!!! Great night and amazing company.”

In the video, the former Waterloo Road star can be heard saying: “Only the other morning, [Michael’s wife] Shakira [Caine] said she heard a scream from downstairs.

“It was Michael shouting, ‘Shakira look, there’s a parcel, my Olympic condoms have come.’

“He said, ‘I’m going to wear the gold ones tonight’, and she said, ‘Why not wear the silver and come f***ing second for a change’.”

At that point, the camera panned around the room to show the guests in fits of laughter, including a highly-amused Tom, who was seated next to Sir Michael.
