[D&D] TOL: The Royal Lighthouse

My first attempt at a mixed-media piece. All linework and hatching was done via pen and sharpie on paper, shading of the water and sky were done in Krita afterward. Let me know if this is a direction I should pursue, or if you prefer the 100% paper pieces as I've posted before.

One of the Greatest City's many wonders, the Royal Lighthouse stands over 450 feet tall in the southwestern bay. The brainchild of the famous inventor Taros of Ekros, its blueprint sat unused within the royal archives for almost three centuries before the then-Praetor Polateus III, as part of his efforts to win popularity for his reign as emperor, commissioned the legendary silver dragon Telaxes (At that time disguised as the human archbishop Retto Tolameus) to oversee its construction, which was completed half a century ago. There are still those in living memory who remember a time when its colossal silhouette didn't dominate the southern ports, blazing with dragonfire in its lamp and blaring its tremendous fog horn on misty mornings.

Ironically, many fishermen curse the structure for its inhabitants. Make no mistake as you look to the top of the tower - that is not a flock of birds roosting, but a flight of wyverns several dozen strong who make the lighthouse their home. They steer clear of deliberately attacking humans, but they have been known to stalk fishing vessels and dive into their wake, snatching up an entire day's catch, and ruining the ship's nets in the process.

While they are troublesome guests, the garrison stationed at the stone fort at the foot of the lighthouse are ill equipped to do anything about it. Such an endeavor would likely only serve to get several of them killed, and they are already undermanned following the death of the emperor and the chaos that has unfolded in many districts of the city.

Misa this is surprisingly immersive!
