  • Despite the war, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Narural Resources continues to develop the nature reserve fund of Ukraine: Ruslan Strilets

During his working visit to Cherkasy region, Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Ruslan Strilets visited the Kholodnyi Yar National Nature Park, established by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy a year ago. There, together with the head of the State Forest Resources Agency Yuriy Bolokhovets, he had handed over documents to the park's management on the transfer of the administrative building from the Kreseletske Forestry to the Kholodnyi Yar National Nature Park. So now the park administration has its own premises where it can work.

In general, the history of the park's official birth lasted almost 20 years. All this time, scientists and public activists have been fighting for the creation of a national nature park in Kholodnyi Yar. This ancient forest in the heart of Ukraine has always been in the center of events at different times of our country's formation. This is a unique place where world historical monuments and valuable natural complexes are concentrated on almost 7,000 hectares of Ukrainian land, which are admired by the world.

One of these monuments is the 1,000-year-old Kholodnyi Yar Oak of Maksym Zalizniak, the largest tree in Ukraine and one of the ten largest trees in Europe. This steadfast giant has witnessed almost all the historical events of Ukraine's formation. People rested under it, it was painted, and it used to inspire Taras Shevchenko, Bohdan Khmelnytsky, and Severyn Nalyvaiko.

"Visiting our valuable territories, I am once again convinced of how important it is to preserve for future generations the nature that shaped the identity of our people. And today, people who have been working on this task from the very beginning to preserve the unique natural resources of Cherkasy region and participated in the creation of the Kholodnyi Yar National Nature Park are working on it," said Ruslan Strilets.

According to the Minister, despite the war, the Ministry of Environmental Porotection and Natural Resources continues to follow the legal path, creating a park administration and doing everything possible to ensure that it can fully fulfill its duties.

"I am convinced that the park should become self-sufficient and independent. And the administrative building and some technical support are just a start towards this goal," Ruslan Strilets emphasized.
