- A Midlife AdventureDursley, UK1,350 contributionsAs other reviews have described this monument is not only large but the detail is staggering.
Definitely worth a stop while in Cádiz. If you are fortunate you might also get to listen to the piano player who as not only very skilled but also presented a beautiful backdrop to this visit.Written March 29, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. But there was a lot of street construction going on so we were not inclined to stay long. Once the construction is complete, this well-planted square will return to tranquility.Written September 28, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - OldjackGreater Melbourne, Australia27,968 contributionsThe monument to Paco Alba was in an interesting location at Caleta Beach on the north west point of the peninsula that is Cadiz. I had to check who he was and found Francisco Jose Maria Del Corazon de Jesus Alba Medina was a famous Spanish musician born at Conil de la Fontera in Cadiz Province in 1918. Interesting statue and a different part of Cadiz and a good walk from the town center. No wonder they called him Paco Alba.Written September 10, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- on_the_go_98765Tucson18,350 contributionsShe assured us this was the most important building (civil) in Cadiz and that it was a "Pazo" (meaning a Lord or noble family's mansion) which Pazo Fernando Miranda certainly was. Miranda controlled Cadiz.
The alternate name of the building is Amaya Building. Today it is a municipal building in the Plaza de San Juan de Dios, next to the Town Hall. It is a five-floor structure in a classic style.
Don Miranda was born in 1750 and arrived in Cadiz from Venezuela in 1771. His life is an interesting story about which our guide knew a great deal.Written October 7, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It would be impossible not to see this metal bird standing on it's perch. The sculpture stands on a large black granite plinth.
Carved into the granite is Article 1 of the Spanish Constitution, which states that :-
"Spain is established as a social and democratic State, subject to the rule of law, which advocates as the highest values of its legal order the following: liberty, justice, equality and political pluralism."
Have no idea what type of bird this is or what it is meant to represent.Written June 4, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It stands in front of the iconic landmark, the old City Gates, Puertas de Tierra in Plaza de la Constitución.
The Statue stands on top of a tall marble column, it pays hommage San Servando a Spanish Martyr and venerated as a Christian Saint. It is alongside another statue of San Germán.
It widely held belief that he was from Mérida and was the son of San Marcellus the Centurion.
San Servando was a soldier in the Roman Army, he was subsequently imprisoned after being identified as a Christian. He was killed, decapitated, in 305 AD near Cadiz and his body was buried there and later moved to Seville. He is the patron saint of the cities of Mérida and Cádiz.Written September 30, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
