The Marlow Murder Club

The Marlow Murder Club, a new UK drama based on the novel of the same name by Robert Thorogood, premieres on Channel 7 at the end of April. The series follows three women who team up to solve a murder in the town of Marlow.

The show’s leading trio includes Samantha Bond as Judith Potts, a retired archaeologist; Jo Martin as Suzie Harris, a dog walker and single mother; and Cara Horgan as Becks Starling, the wife of the local vicar.

The series is an adaptation of the first book in Thorogood’s Marlow Murder Club series, which currently includes three novels. Thorogood is also the creator of the popular TV series Death in Paradise and has written several mystery novels.

The plot of the show centres on Judith, a 77-year-old woman who lives alone in a mansion just outside Marlow. She spends her time setting crosswords for The Times newspaper, swimming in the Thames, and drinking whisky. One evening, while swimming, she witnesses a brutal murder. The local police, led by Detective Sergeant Tanika Malik, do not believe her story, so she decides to investigate with the help of Suzie and Becks.

The three women form the Marlow Murder Club and soon realise they are dealing with a serial killer. They work to solve the puzzle and identify the killer, facing danger and uncovering a series of clues along the way.

The show premiered in the UK in March and received mixed reviews. Some critics praised the charming characters and performances, while others found it unremarkable and formulaic.

The cast of the series includes experienced actors such as Samantha Bond, known for her roles in Downton Abbey and the James Bond films, and Jo Martin, who has appeared in Doctor Who and Back to Life. Cara Horgan has also built an impressive resume with roles in The Sandman and Traitors.

The Marlow Murder Club is a light-hearted and cosy mystery series that showcases the strengths and friendships of a trio of strong female characters. With its picturesque setting and intriguing plot, the show offers a fun and entertaining escape for viewers.
