Knights top Saint John's, 8-1, in tune-up for MIAC Playoffs

SARTELL, Minn. – The Carleton College men's tennis team closed the regular season with an 8-1 road win over Saint John's University. Zach Leslie was 1 of 4 players to notch wins in both singles and doubles during the Knights' (14-5, 8-1 MIAC) final tune-up before the MIAC Playoffs.

"Thrilled to have the 'big stork' playing in our lineup again," said Carleton head coach Stephan Zweifel. "The damage Zach does to our food budget is more than compensated by the increase in the team's percentage of overhead winners."

An 8-3 victory by Jack Rivkin and Cooper Kline at No. 1 doubles coupled with an 8-5 triumph in the first-ever pairing of Leslie and Yuv Kataria at No. 2 doubles gave Carleton the early lead in the team competition. Saint John's (5-10, 4-5 MIAC) got one of those points back with an 8-6 result at No. 3 doubles.

It was all Carleton during singles, with the Knights taking all six matches in straight sets.

Jasper Yang breezed past his opponent at No. 4 singles by a 6-0, 6-0 tally, and Kline's 13th triumph of the season was a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles gave Carleton a 4-1 lead.

Baiyun Jing notched a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles, while Kataria added a 6-2, 6-4 victory at the top spot in the lineup.

Rivkin contributed a 6-4, 6-1 result at No. 5 singles before Leslie–playing singles for the first time since the 2022-23 season finale–closed the action by a 6-3, 7-8 (7-4) tally.
