Ryan Reynolds has taken to social media to pay tribute to a Wrexham fan who has passed away.

Reynolds bought Wrexham football club with Rob McElhenney in 2020 and has helped take the club to a global audience through the docuseries Welcome to Wrexham.

Through their ventures, the pair have met many fans, and just last month, Reynolds met terminally ill fan Jay Fear.

Fear was diagnosed with appendiceal cancer in January, and recently passed away.

On the news of Fear's passing, Reynolds took to social media to express his condolences and share how Fear had impacted his life.

"So grateful to have spent time with Jay Fear," Reynolds tweeted. "He didn't have much of it left, and the fact he shared that time so freely with others is something I'll never take for granted and never forget.

"This man lived. Sending all my love to Deb, Jess and Sam."

He posted similar messages to his Instagram page and his Instagram Stories, adding: "Deb, Sam and Jess, thank you for sharing your dad with me. I know how inadequate words must be given your enormous loss.

"Sending you all our love from my family, Wrexham and beyond. I loved every second I spent with Jay."

With the help of the charity Bucket List Wishes, Fear was able to meet Reynolds at the club last month ahead of the team's match against Boreham Wood.

Wrexham won the match, with the result moving the team to the Football League for the first time in 15 years. A perfect match for Fear to attend and meet Reynolds at.

At the time, Fear spoke to BBC 5 Live's Sunday Breakfast and said (via BBC News): "They always say you should never meet your idol and this guy is definitely an exception to that."

While meeting Fear, the Hollywood star gave him a signed glove used in Deadpool 2 and arranged for him to visit the set of the third film in the franchise.

Welcome to Wrexham season 1 is available to stream on Disney+. Season 2 has been confirmed.

Deadpool and Deadpool 2 are streaming on Disney+, and also available on digital download, DVD and Blu-ray. Deadpool 3, starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, has a release date of September 6, 2024.
