This is a long avenue full of shops and the streets near by also have shops, so if you want to shop this is the place. The avenue has the Tram (that is like a surface metropolitan) which is very useful since the avenue is long.

As our hotel in Brest was situated on a side street of rue de Siam, our first walk in town took us from the immense and unwelcoming Place de la Liberté and the adjoining square Mathon with its huge war monument (1954) down rue de Siam to the bridge over the River Penfeld. There is very little to see, really. Rue de Siam is a rather sterile, pedestrianized boulevard with a tram track in the middle, lined with post World War II buildings. There is almost no greenery and the row of South African black granite fountains (‘The Lakes’, 1988) by Hungarian artist Marta Pan, halfway down, do little to brighten up the atmosphere. To the left, on Square du Commandant l'Herminier, we spotted a strange ruin, which turned out to be the 18th century gate of the former Jesuit seminary. A sad reminder of war destructions.

The best feature of rue de Siam is its serious downward slope allowing for great views. Towards the end, the street also gets much livelier, with lots of restaurants and cafes.

This seems the hub of the eating out venues. Lots and lots of restaurants and cafes serving international and exotic foods are here.

Forgive me the natives and the inhabitants of Brest, but for a visitor, Brest is the ugliest and most uninteresting city in France
.It is understandable because it was almost totally destroyed in the war,but the reconstruction of the city left a lot to be desired.Ugly constructions from the 50s and 60s .An example of this is this street, the main street of the city. Apparently where there are the main shops and restaurants, but without any touristic points of interest

We visited Brest in nice sunny weather in June, not too hot, about 20 degrees. Siam street is a long, fairly busy street running from the centre towards the see and at the end of the street there are some most famous sights of Brest: the drawbridge, the castle and Tanguy tower. I enjoyed our walk along the street, the white houses, small shops and cafes with very friendly staff. Brest is a town somewhat out of the way, located near the tip of the Brittany peninsula. You cannot visit in on the way to somewhere else, you have to be headed there. A am glad we made this trip because I really liked the town. The view of the castle at the end of the street is breathtaking.

Despite some refurbishing, the street remains without life, 2 shops of 3 closed, hardly any flowers or trees, the tram being the most important. All over the most dull and ugly city I have been to.

A street that moves with the passage of the Tramway, lively shops for shopping days, very nice restaurants, a pedestrian street to discover in Brest.
