The head of the French Army has praised the latest class of Sandhurst cadets – which also welcomed the first female from Nigeria to complete the course.

Commissioning Course No 232 was congratulated by General Pierre SchilI, who represented King Charles III, at the Sovereign's Parade at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.

The parade also marked 120 years of the Entente Cordiale – a series of agreements signed on 8 April 1904 between the UK and the French Republic.

One of the 26 international cadets was Officer Cadet Princess Owowoh, the first female from Nigeria to go through the military academy.

She said: "I had to adapt to the way. I had to adapt to the food, the new culture. I had to adapt to a variety of things.

"With time I got used to it. It was quite different from my country."

In his speech, French Army chief Gen Schill said the cadets represented the "very best of the youth of the United Kingdom or their native countries".

He said they are embracing their military careers "as war is gathering back at our continent's doors".
