Student athletes can play at the intramural level or try out for the Roosevelt Lakers varsity teams, which compete in the National Association for Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference. Famous children’s book author and poet Shel Silverstein, who wrote The Giving Tree and Where the Sidewalk Ends, attended the university until he was drafted into the army, and McDonald’s CEO Jim Skinner graduated from Roosevelt.
