13:43 – Sufi

The most appealing option in this uncompetitive opener is SUFI, who stuck to his task pretty well on the AW this month and is well handicapped for today’s return to hurdling. Lil Codey didn’t take to chasing on her latest outing but she posted a couple of decent efforts over hurdles during the summer and has less to prove on the stamina front than some here. Winning chaser Yaazaain is next on the list.

14:18 – Wild Wilbur (NAP)

Present Storm quickened clear with the winner on the run-in at Uttoxeter this month and might still be well handicapped after her latest 4lb rise. However, WILD WILBUR (nap) looks fortunate to be 1lb lower than when second at Plumpton in the spring, given he was 14l ahead of the third and that the bang-in-form winner was on the second leg of a four-timer. Furthermore, Emma Lavelle’s runner is still unexposed after only five starts.

14:53  – Hang in There

Hell Red has farmed small-field chases this season but he encounters a very useful opponent in HANG IN THERE today. After an underwhelming chasing debut here in May, Emma Lavelle’s 8yo has improved quickly with experience over fences and is now bidding for his fourth win in a row.

15:28 – Robert Walpole

Sea The Clouds showed more than enough in bumpers to make him of interest in this run-of-the-mill novice hurdle but Dan Skelton’s new recruit ROBERT WALPOLE was in good form on the Flat when we last saw him in the spring and he might be the answer. Star Of Valour also makes the shortlist.

16:03 – The Height of Fame

Little Jessture is not opposed lightly as she bids for a fourth course win of the season but THE HEIGHT OF FAME was in excellent form in the spring and gets the nod in the hope a subsequent break hasn’t checked her momentum. The selection’s stablemate Maroochi scores good points for her consistency this summer and is likely to give another good account.

Newton Abbot

16:38 – For Pleasure

Romanor produced a good performance to win over C&D last month and is likely to have this race run to suit but the class act in the line-up is FOR PLEASURE, who will find this much easier than his assignments towards the end of last season and could run this field ragged from the front.

17:13 – Gaulois

The most obvious answer is GAULOIS, who is a triple course winner since fitted with cheekpieces in the spring and looked in particularly good nick on his latest appearance three weeks ago. One possible fly in the ointment for him is Nordic Combined, who returns from his break with a lot to prove but has slipped to a very tempting handicap mark. A case can also be made for his stablemate, Cadeau D’Or.
