A question regarding Robert Stuart, Duke of Kintyre and his family

Hmm interesting, given the view of Spain amongst the English public at this time, I think a French bride seems more likely.

How's this sound:

Charles I of England, Scotland and Ireland (b.1600) m Sophia of Denmark (b.1605) (married in 1622)

Surviving Issue:

Anne of England, Princess Royal (b.1623)

Charles II of England, Scotland and Ireland (b.1625)

James, Duke of Gloucester and Albany (b.1628)

Mary of England (b.1630)

Henry, Duke of Clarence and Ross (b.1633)

Elizabeth of England (b.1635)

Sophia of Scotland (b.1640)

So perhaps Anne Marie for Charles?

List sound good but I was talking about the daughters of Gaston, Duke of Orleans not the daughters of Philippe (who by the way were granddaughters of Charles I).
The daughters of Gaston by Marguerite of Lorraine are too young but his firstborn, the richest heiress of France has the right age
so https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anne_Marie_Louise_d'Orléans,_Duchess_of_Montpensier or Louis XIV can offer an italian first cousin: either an ATL princess of Tuscany (daughter of Henriette) or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Princess_Luisa_Christina_of_Savoy

The Archduchesses of the main line of Austria are either too young or too old but their cousin of Tyrol can work https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isabella_Clara,_Archduchess_of_Austria, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maria_Leopoldine_of_Austria (or their elder sister Maria Eleonora, born in 1627 butterflying her OTL death in 1629).
ATL sisters or an ATL daughter of HRE Ferdinand II by Eleonora Gonzaga also would be good

Yeah I was on about Gaston's daughter as well aha, alternatively we could see a daughter of Louis XIII marrying Charles II do you think? Isabella Clara could do quite nicely as a wife for Charles II, I agree.

I never called her simply Anne Marie but always Anne Marie Louise... Anne Marie Louise as Queen of England would be fun... Isabella Clara of Austria-Tyrol also would be interesting as an ATL daughter of Louis XIII (but I think Charles I would like better the Duchess of Montpensier than Madame Royale as the dowry would he much better) and changing Anne of Austria's childbirth history would change too much for France's politics

Hmm this is true, I suppose it depends on where he's standing domestically as well. If there has been a civil war, and he's won, then he might go for France, if he's just finished the war, perhaps Austria, given traditional enmities against France and all.

Tone down the number of surviving kids to 4/5. It's first cousin match we're talking about. Duke of York may also end up with 4 or such surviving kids (in OTL 4 of 7 children of Princesse of Carignano/Comtesse de Soissons lived to adulthood).

Isabella Clara would never marry into Protestant family. Maria Leopoldine OTOH was considered for cross-religion match OTL.

Alrighty so perhaps something like:

Maria Leopoldine could be quite the marriage I think or a surviving Marie Eleonora

Also to confirm, we nailed down on a relative of the Count of Soissons for Robert, Duke of Kintyre and York right? Is that preferred to Claudia de Medici herself

Claudia is a young widow with a child, as opposed to the unmarried French girl. A French match also comes with alliance, while Medici one is with money only.

Very true, Soissons it is. So, now, should it be Louise or Marie? Historically, Marie seems to have had the better luck producing surviving offspring

Depends whether or not you want to butterfly away two of the best generals of the second half of XVII century (Eugene of Savoy and Louis of Baden were Marie's grandkids).

Hmm, that is a good point. I think having Charlotte surviving and her marrying Robert makes the most sense. Perhaps their marriage can take place in 1625, the year Charles I ascends the throne

Not much of, until James I kicks the bucket. He was against the full scale military operation on the continent, so until Daddy dearest kicks the bucket, Robert won't be doing much of practical work.

If the Irish kick off, as they weren wont to do during this period?

OTOH, I can see Buckingham being stripped of his Lord High Admiral honorific and this one given to Robert come 1625. Whether he will turn out as interested in navy as some of OTL nephews of his remains to be seen.
