Richard Bradford, a Texas-born actor who was known best for playing a former CIA agent turned private eye on the British TV adventure series “Man in a Suitcase,” died March 22 in Los Angeles, California.

A cause of death was not immediately available.
Bradford played the London-based private eye for a single season, from 1967 to 1968.

He was born Nov. 10, 1937, in Tyler, Texas. He attended Texas A&M University on a football scholarship, but his budding athletic career failed to pan out. He moved to New York City to study acting while working as a waiter. In 1962, he joined the Actors Studio and was acting on television and in movies within a few years.
He played the original Dr. Joe Gannon in the pilot movie for TV that became the TV series “Medical Center” that starred Chad Everett. His other TV credits include guest-star roles on “Gunsmoke,” “The High Chaparral,” “The Waltons,” and “Murder, She Wrote.”
In the mid-‘80s, Bradford was a semiregular cast member on the TV police series “Cagney & Lacey.”
Bradford’s roles weren’t limited to the small screen. He was featured in films including “The Missouri Breaks” (1976), “The Trip to Bountiful” (1985), “The Untouchables” (1987), and “The Milagro Beanfield War” (1988).
Bradford is survived by his longtime partner, the actress Millie Perkins; their son, Richard Bradford III; two stepdaughters, Hedy Hutcheson and Lillie Thorn; and four grandchildren.
