Earlier this month, when Diljit Dosanjh performed in Mumbai to a packed stadium, he promised that his upcoming Vancouver Tour, Dil-Luminati, would be a memorable one. True to his word, the performance which took place at BC Place Stadium, on Saturday, scripted history for being the largest Punjabi show ever held outside India. The Amar Singh Chamkila star took to Instagram to share his excitement, posting photos and a video capturing the memorable event.

In an Instagram video, posted on Sunday, a humble Diljit can be heard thanking God. The clip, which gives his fans a glimpse of his performance on stage, has the singer-actor’s voice-over expressing his gratitude for the love. “Na Roop, na rekh, na rang kich… (He has no form, no shape, no colour; God is beyond the three qualities)” he captioned the post.  “He who is blessed by Guru Nanak, is the happiest.  Colour, form and shape are external. It is His blessing which brought these people to the stadium. If it wasn’t his wish, nobody would have come to my shows,” Diljit said in the video.

The crowd roared with excitement as Diljit, donning an all-black ensemble, performed hits from his album GOAT and received an outpouring of love and admiration from fans and celebrities alike.  The concert made waves across Bollywood, with celebrities taking to social media to express their admiration. Neha Dhupia declared that “we are living in the era of Diljit Dosanjh,” while Rhea Kapoor shared her support and affection for the artist, writing, “God’s child @diljitdosanjh. Love Ya”. Fans also joined in the outpouring of praise, with one attendee describing Dosanjh as “God sent in human form” and another hailing him as “Punjab’s Michael Jackson.” The singer also enthralled the audience as he crooned “Main Hoon Punjabi” from his latest film.

The Dil-Luminati tour’s immense success was evident in the sold-out tickets for the Vancouver concert. Reports by Moneycontrol revealed that front-row seats for the afternoon show were priced between $482.79 and $713.89. Dosanjh mesmerized a crowd of 54,000 fans, treating them to a performance of hits.

In a heartwarming moment, the event’s general manager, Chris, presented Diljit with a framed picture of his performance, for becoming the first Indian pop singer to sell out BC Place stadium. The crew applauded as Diljit humbly expressed his gratitude for the opportunity. In 2023, Dosanjh made history again as the first South Asian artist to perform on the main stage at Coachella, and his ongoing Dil-Luminati tour promises more groundbreaking performances.

Festive offer

In a display of cultural pride, six-year-old Aanakh Bhullar took the stage with his idol, during a historic performance at BC Place. Dancing alongside the superstar, the young Bhangra enthusiast showcased his dedication to the art form and captured the hearts of the audience.  The 6-year-old, who dressed up like the “Lover” hitmaker for the concert, said it made him “happy” to perform with his idol. “I like his dancing moves. And I love him. He’s the best singer,” he added.

Diljit’s acting prowess was recently showcased in Imtiaz Ali’s musical biopic Amar Singh Chamkila, co-starring Parineeti Chopra. The film, now streaming on Netflix, chronicles the life of the late Punjabi singer, often dubbed the Elvis of Punjab.
