Gabriele D’Annunzio - Autograph; Correspondence made up with three Letters to Daughter Renata Anguissola (Cicciuzza) - 1916/1918
No. 24622307
Correspondence composed of three letters signed by Gabriele D'Annunzio to his daughter Renata Anguissola.
Letters addressed to the illegitimate daughter and beloved of the Vate, the only one recognized by D'Annunzio, Eva Adriana Renata Anguissola, passed to history with the affectionate paternal endearment of "cicciuzza".
D'Annunzio writes to his daughter from the Casetta Rossa or Casina delle Rose, overlooking the Grand Canal in Venice, guest of the Prince Fritz von Hohenlohe, following a serious accident to the right eye reported due to a violent landing with the seaplane on the lagoon of Grado in 1916.
The state of health of the poet is found on the messy and painful spelling of the letters, which despite everything are pervaded by an incredible tenderness, witness of the deep affection that binds D'Annunzio with Renata. Affection completely reciprocated as it will indeed be Renata who will assist the father during his long convalescence, staying at the Hotel Danieli, where D'Annunzio had an exclusive room.
Letter N. 1 (with envelope) addressed to Donna Renata Anguissola "Danieli"
"Dear Baby, I'm better with the eye, and I'll come to see you in the afternoon and bring you more books. Be patient. I hope your room is warm. I worked until three (the poet is writing the Nocturne), and I finished the prayers. Gabri
Letter No. 2 (with envelope) addressed to Donna Renata D'Annunzio "Danieli".
Note how the Poet uses his surname instead of his daughter's. "Dear Little, You call Colonna (?) (...) to tell her to come tonight in our garden (La Casetta Rossa) after lunch. Goodbye Your Paparetto ".
Letter No. 3
"Dear Baby, Pia can't go to the hospital. He's waiting for you at breakfast. I can't have lunch with you tonight. How would you like to spend the evening? You want to go to the theater? We should find a company. I miss you. Tenderly Gabri "
