My ‘24 Red Sparrow

Post by mlc31 » Wed May 01, 2024 5:06 pm

Wanted to edit my intro post to include this pic but I’m on my phone and it’s not cooperating. Completely stock except for heated grips and a hand shifter that will be installed next week.

Beautiful bike! I have always thought thought it strange that shares a named with a terrible program run by the Soviet/Russian secret services. Maybe this bike bringing so much happiness will help redeem all that misery! On a more promising note, the more recent Colza fields which maybe refers to the fields of bright yellow flowers of the rapeseed/canola plants which are a growing cash crop for Ural's new home country, Kazakhstan.

Great paint job. In regards to the name it is a delightful tongue in cheek. I am not an expert in the KGB/GRU and now SVR/GRU but I believe the "Red Sparrow" moniker is largely a product of Hollywood. Sounds sexy though.

That's right. I watched two American films: "Red Scorpion" (Dolph Lundgren) and "Red Heat" (Schwarzenegger). Similar names.
P.S. The bike is made smartly!

The Sparrow program was real. It was popularized by Hollywood but there is truth in there.

KGB survives in Belarus. In Russia, the KGB was split into the FSB and SVR, with some functions being transferred to the MVD. The GRU was renamed to GU.
