At the beginning of the movie, Charlie Babbit, who runs a car dealership, tries to convince some impatient customers that they will eventually get their cars. The problem is, the EPA is withholding them because they failed emissions inspections. So, he asks his employees to lie to the buyers.

Answer: Charlie's brother

At the beginning of the movie, Charlie tells Susanna that when he was young, he had an imaginary friend called The Rain Man who used to sing to him. Later in the movie, he learns that this was not an imaginary friend, but a brother that he didn't know he had.

The name Rain Man comes from the fact that the brother's name is Raymond, but when young Charlie tried to say "Raymond", it came out "Rain Man".

Answer: Sanford

Sanford Babbit puts his eldest son in an institution, wouldn't let his youngest son drive a car, and allowed his youngest son to stay in jail for two days for borrowing his car. He never told his youngest son about his eldest son, he didn't allow his eldest son to be informed of his death, and he bequeathed all his money to his eldest son who had no use for money and none to his youngest son who could have used it.

Answer: So Charlie could get his money.

Charlie didn't think it was fair that his dad left all his money to his older brother. This seemed even more unfair when he found out that his brother lived in an institution (where he couldn't buy anything) and didn't even understand the concept of money. So he took Raymond out of the institution so that he could take him to Los Angeles and ask Raymond's doctor for half the estate and money.

When that fails, Charlie tries to get custody of Raymond so Charlie can get full control of the money.

Answer: He heard noises

Charlie and Susanna have sex. Raymond, overhearing them but not understanding that concept, goes into their bedroom and watches TV there. Charlie angrily asks Raymond why he was in their room. Raymond said it was because he heard noises. Charlie remains angry. Susanna, understanding Raymond better than Charlie does, gets upset with the way Charlie treats Raymond and she leaves.

Answer: When it rains

On their way to Los Angeles, Charlie rents a room in a hotel. He's not pleased to do it and he's only doing it because Raymond won't travel when it rains. Ironically, the Rain Man does not like the rain. In their defense, Raymond did not choose to be Rain Man and Charlie was just a baby when he came up with that name for his older brother.

Answer: "Hot water burn baby."

When Charlie turns on a faucet, Raymond has a traumatic flashback to the moment that ended up getting him sent to the institution. He screams, "Hot water burn baby!" repeatedly and tries to save Charlie from being burned. Charlie calms Raymond down, assures him that he is not burned, and then realizes this is why Raymond was sent to the institution.

Answer: The People's Court

Raymond has to watch it every day. At one point, he and Charlie stop at a random woman's house in Oklahoma. At first Charlie tells her that he is from Nielsen TV ratings and that she has been selected to be a Nielsen family. She sees Raymond and and decides Charlie is lying and closes the door.

Then, she hears Raymond and Charlie yelling, and she opens to door again and asks what is going on. Charlie confesses that he had been lying and that Raymond had to watch "The People's Court" or he'd throw a fit on her porch.

She tells him that her family usually watches cartoon and asks if that's okay with Raymond. Raymond decides that it must be "The People's Court". She, being surprisingly generous to strangers, lets them in to watch "The People's Court".

Answer: Counting cards

Charlie takes Raymond to a doctor so he can learn more about what Raymond is like and how to deal with him. The doctor discovers that Raymond is brilliant at math and with numbers. Charlie decides to use this ability to count cards at a casino in Las Vegas. It works brilliantly. Not only do they win lots of money, the casino's security can't figure out what is going on.

Answer: "Are you taking any prescription medication?"

Raymond asks this question to Susanna earier in the movie. Vern tells her that's what he says to any woman he likes. Later in Las Vegas, he meets another woman he likes. She likes him too and schedules a date with him, but when he asks this question, she cancels the date without making it clear to him. Raymond, believing the date would still go on, asks Charlie how to dance. Charlie teaches him. On his way to the date, he meets Susanna. Susanna accompanies Raymond to where the date was supposed to take place.

When the woman does not show up to the date, Susanna gives Raymond a pity kiss, which he describes as "wet". Raymond reveals that this kiss happened near the end of the movie, when he tells the doctors what he and Charlie had been doing the last few days. Charlie's not to happy to learn of the kiss.
