      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Emily Blunt's outstanding performance isn't enough to keep The Girl on the Train from sliding sluggishly into exploitative melodrama.

Lydia K I have no idea why the reviews of this movie are so harsh – it's intriguing the whole way through with some very decent shocks throughout. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/07/24 Full Review Pallas K It is a really exciting film. It is a good plot based on a novel. This pared with nice acting makes this film to a good thriller/drama. The psychological aspect of alcohol addiction is shown very well an realistic. Its something special if you can throw your self in. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/29/24 Full Review Nim T I liked the cast that was in this movie, but in terms of the story there were flaws. For example, the usage of the times brought a confusing feeling as I was trying to understand the story. The sudden changes implemented with one scene talking about Rachel, then Anna, then Megan, made it hard to find the final connection between the characters. I know Emily Blunt did the best she could when acting Rachel, but Justin Theroux was a highlight of the film. His acting as a villain was slow yet powerful. Rebecca Ferguson is a nice actress, but this film didn't allow enough of her talent to be present. A plot with unbalanced material and insufficient usage of this dynamic crew. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 07/08/23 Full Review Georgan G Overall a really good mystery. The protagonist was being messed with by her ex-husband. I admit to having scratched my head as to who was who in the beginning. Too many characters who looked alike, with a longer than needed plot to arrive to the end. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/25/23 Full Review Hannah L Kinda hard to follow. Confusing for me lol. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/04/23 Full Review Amelia C Acting is brilliant but the script's plot is average, the end sequence is anticlimactic and unsatisfactory Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/21/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Sarah Marshall Bitch Media When Emily Blunt is onscreen, it's impossible to look away. Feb 11, 2021 Full Review Udita Jhunjhunwala Livemint If not for Blunt's fantastic performance, the film would have come across as a quickie capitalizing on the novel's popularity. As far as thrillers go,Girl on the Train works hard to make every player seem suspicious but the result isn't as juicy... Jul 31, 2019 Full Review Kristen Lopez Culturess Though never devolving into the levels of camp, The Girl on the Train presents itself as Gone Girl's trashier, but funner sister. Nov 20, 2017 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Apart from the film's acting, fans of the source material should ignore the adaptation and preserve their imagination's picture of Hawkins' novel. Rated: 2/4 Apr 9, 2022 Full Review Matt Brunson Film Frenzy The herrings in The Girl on the Train might be the usual shade of robust red, but the film itself is largely a bloodless affair, not so much a whodunit as a wellobviouslythatpersondunit.
