A short boat ride takes you to this very peaceful place with some simple ruins. Good photographic opportunities. Our visit was at the end of July and the midges were man eaters, even through clothing. We had very stupidly left our repellent and head nets on our cruise ship.

This was a lovely inexpensive thing to do. I loved seeing the old kayaks and tools. The museum consists of two buildings which are close together. You can pay by card in the main museum.

A delightful and quirky place full of lovely people. This was the coldest place we visited on our world cruise, much icier than Iceland. It is hugely expensive , one pack of biscuits was $8AUD. It is a photographers dream.

We arrived in Qaqortoq on HAL Voyage of the Vikings cruise. This is a small village with beautiful, colorful buildings. We walked toward the visitors center and when the lake came into view, we headed toward the trail on the left side (as we were facing the lake). Initially the trail is very wide, almost like a rocky road and we encountered many friendly locals, some of who were picking something on the side of the hill (maybe small berries). As we continued, the trail became less evident and started up a rocky mountainous area around the back (far) side of the lake. There were a few areas where we were unsure how to continue, but as we got further along, we noticed that there were pink arrows and splotches of paint on the rocks marking the trail. It was a beautiful day, warmer than expected, which was nice; but also made for more bugs. We did have head nets, thankfully and did put them to use. We passed a few couples along the way, mostly from our ship and an excursion led by a guide. Our ship did offer this as an excursion for $60-70pp, but this is doable on your own, if in good shape and have time. This is a moderately strenuous hike, with elevation and very rocky ground. It did take us over 3 1/2 hours to complete and we had some achy calves and arches when finished. Be sure and take some water and possibly a head net! Be sure to stop and rest and take in the amazing views along the way as well. The end of the trail (for us) took us into the other side of town, where we checked out the church, the fountain, the fish market and carvings of fish and whales in the rocks.

Well maintained building and an impressive building.

Worth a quick stop and peek inside.

Nothing fancy but interesting to see the Christian influence in this remote region.

Kinda odd to see a fountain in Greenland, but here it is.

Short walk from the dock and totally functional.

Worth a few minutes to enjoy and even has benches to take a bit of a rest.

This was a delightful experience that should not be missed. The view from the windows was delightful. Sometimes you can be there when there is choir practice.

A place to get Greenland souvenirs and get information about where to go in the area. There may also be local vendors outside with their particular handmade wares. Good place to go for information and get oriented.

They had cancelled our helicopter without telling us. We only found out when we were in the airport without a ride. When we called them they offered no help.
