Providence had lots of opportunities available to students and while it prepared us for college, provided you took honors and AP classes, there was not much support for students outside of the honors and AP tracks. The students are also working to increase support for athletics, as there is not much support from administration for the athletic teams. The arts departments are well funded and have lots of opportunities for students to get involved, and clubs in general are pretty accepting of all students.
Providence High School most definitely prepares you for college, but there are some challenges to going here. The academics are rigorous and move at a fast pace with little forgiveness for late work. I feel as thought some of my teachers don’t quite understand that I am a student enrolled at 7 classes at a time, and theirs might not always at the top of the list of work I have to fit into my limited time outside of school. As a sophomore, I have learned tons of skills, specifically in writing. I have learned so much more on how to become a better writer and truly feel as though it benefits me in every aspect of my academics.
Quite a few of my friends and I have experienced bullying here and when going to administration with the issue we felt unseen and unheard - the responsible parties essentially received a light scolding since they are athletes and hence 'untouchable'. They should also do something about all the rapists, it's a bit absurd how many of my friends have classes with someone they have been sexually assaulted by.
PHS is what you make of it - and there are some good engaged teachers and there are some really terrible ones who just check the boxes. I hope what they say is true and that the level of rigor is such that college is easier because of the rigor and the huge amount that you must do independently.
PHS is a high pressure HS that focuses on grades and test scores. The class structure can be challenging because some classes are taught in 2 Quarters - making it a very fast pace. Hopefully it will ensure college readiness!
Providence High School overall was a great school. I had good teachers who taught the subject and were experts in that subject. There was a lot of stress to perform on tests and lots of unnecessary homework that was difficult to complete and also play sports. The sports programs need new coaches that actually play ALL the students that are on the team instead of the favorite few, and realize that they are role models for the students and act accordingly. The buildings and classrooms were decent, but older for sure.
Good principal. Nice school. caring teachers. Diverse and highly achieving students. A lot of additional classes and clubs are offered. Nice size pool and sport.
Providence High School is a very good school, the environment is friendly, the faculty and staff are nice, the students are behaved, just overall a good school.
Most of the classes are very challenging. A lot of students that have gone to other schools said that Providence is very hard. I like how teachers are always there for you. There are a lot of resources available to help you be successful. Students in general are not very nice. If you are not rich you are probably going to get excluded. There is also a very strict phone policy. If they see you on your phone they take it for 3 days including nights and it can go up to 7 days. You cannot even use your phone during lunch.
While it is a good school, it is very restrictive. Unlike most other schools in the district, it has a zero tolerance policy for phones, and also still has the junior paper as a graduation requirement.
I often witnessed many other teachers and staff disrespect students constantly throughout my years. I saw and heard teachers making mistakes and making students pay for it with their grades, instead of them owning up to it, such as not posting the assignment online, but then claiming they did, then failing all of the students for “not completing the work”.
I also witnessed severe discrimination based on gender, mainly centered around the dress code, as all students believe that it is ridiculous, as it is severely outdated, and was o my applied to the female students/ staff only would dress code girls even if a boy was in the wrong. An example of this would be girls having to wear a men’s xxl sweatshirt so their shirt was “fist length”, and they would still have the possibility to be dress coded for it. Where I witnessed a boy where shorts that showed his underwear as they were too short, and he was not dress coded.
Academically challenging, not always on a bad way, the only good part.

My experience at Providence High School has overall been amazing. I am surrounded by peers and teachers who care about me and my future once I leave. The sheer number of options for AP and other electives allows for everyone to find their niche within the school. This in addition to the clubs and extracurriculars provided help form an environment I can find myself.
The teachers are nice and helpful for the most part and the school really cares about the students education and prepares for college.
I like that Providence High School staff pushes their students to showcase their abilities and knowledge. They prepare their students well for AP Courses and College Level Curriculum. I believe that this is fair and easy to get a taste of what college is like while simultaneously developing good study, writing, and real-world habits.
Lots of homework, very rigorous. Rigid teachers and not much individualized help, but my child is very prepared for college.
I have learned a lot from Providence. I have learned how to manage my time, prioritize, and have a high level of grit. Providence puts an increased emphasis on grades. The band and marching band are the best things about Providence. Providence overprepares its students for college.
This school is a exceptional school. The school is plentiful in after school clubs and sports options. Everyone is super nice and the teachers offer tutoring for anyone that needs help. This school has overall been a pleasant experience.
