While the UK royals have been putting on the ritz for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee festivities, their European counterparts have been enjoying some high-profile events of their own. Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, for example, undertook a special visit to the Netherlands this week, which included a glamorous appearance at a gala dinner in Amsterdam.

Dressed in fittingly regal style, the 44-year-old princess opted for an ethereal, forest-green gown with a ruched bodice and ruffled shoulders, paired with a matching leaf motif headpiece. She pulled her dark hair back into an elegant bun and kept her makeup simple and soft, adding teardrop earrings for a final flourish.

Earlier this week, Victoria celebrated the National Day of Sweden in Stockholm, joined by her husband, Prince Daniel, and the couple’s children. Both Victoria and her daughter, 10-year-old Princess Estelle, donned matching traditional ‘Sverigedräkten’ costume for the festivities, wearing pretty blue and yellow folk dresses. Six-year-old Prince Oscar, meanwhile, was his father’s mini-me in a smart suit and tie.

Marked annually on 6 June, the Swedes’ National Day marks the anniversary of the election of King Gustav Vasa in 1523 (considered the foundation of modern Sweden), as well as the adoption of a new constitution by the country, with the Swedish Instrument of Government coming into force on the same date in 1809.

Much like our own Royal Family, the Swedish king, 76-year-old Carl XVI Gustaf, is increasingly handing over some of his duties to his daughter in his older years. Currently the second-longest reigning monarch in Swedish history, there’s even been speculation that he may one day abdicate to allow the crown princess to take to the throne.
