Princess Amélia, Mrs Alexander James Spearman (Amélia Maria de Fátima Josefa Antônia Miguela Gabriela Rafaela Gonzaga; born 15 March 1989) is a member of the Brazilian imperial family. She is the oldest daughter of Antônio, Prince Imperial of Brazil, and Christine, Princess Imperial of Brazil. She is the niece of Bertrand, Prince of Brazil and a granddaughter of Pedro Henrique, Prince of Brazil. She was 5th in the line of succession to the Brazilian throne until you renounce your rights to the throne by marrying.

Upon her marriage she was committed to resign her dynastic rights and the Brazilian princely title, although such thing is not legally allowed by Brazil's monarchical constitution without parliamentary approval. She de facto was the fifth in the line of succession to the Brazilian throne until her supposed renunciation.

Biography[edit]

Early life[edit]

Princess Amélia was born in Brussels, in Belgium, as the oldest daughter of Prince Antônio of Brazil and Princess Christine of Ligne. By her father, she is great-great-granddaughter of Empress Isabel I of Brazil, while by her mother, she is great-grandson of Charlotte, Grand Duchess of Luxembourg. Currently, she occupies the fifth position in the legitimist lines of succession to the defunct Brazilian throne, which is currently lead by her uncle Luiz, Prince of Brazil.

Formation[edit]

She begun her studies at the Instituto Social São José and Colégio Ipiranga in Petrópolis, where her parents lived in a little palace. Late, she attended the architecture course at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro. She worked in many enterprises; She was architect and interior designer at the Marcia Muller Arquitetura in Rio de Janeiro from 2007 to 2008, architect and expansion coordinator at the Brasil Estudio Lamela in Madrid from 2008 to 2010, architect atelier at the Architecture Frédéric de Bonhome sprl in Brussels in 2012 and architect and interior designer at the Camu & Morrison in London from 2012 to 2014. Currently, she is a freelancer.

Marriage and Issue[edit]

Princess Amélia married at the Imperial Chapel of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Rio de Janeiro, on 16 July 2014, to Alexander James Spearman (born at Perth, Scotland, 27 March 1984), from the House of Spearman baronets. The marriage was widely noticed as the royal marriage in the Americas and was attended by members of the Austrian Imperial Family, Portuguese Royal Family, Two-Sicilian Royal Family, Belgian Royal Family, etc.

Upon her marriage, Princess Amélia was "forced" to resign her Brazilian titles and rights by the Head of the Family on 16 July 2014. Nonetheless such act it's not foreseen by the monarchic constitution of 1824 without parliamentary approval, and therefore it is unconstitutional, null and void.
