A previously unseen wedding portrait of the Prince and Princess of Wales was shared on Monday to commemorate the couple's 13th anniversary. Kate, who is currently undergoing chemotherapy for undisclosed cancer, married Prince William, the future king, at Westminster Abbey in April 2011 after eight years of dating, reported DailyMail.
The couple is facing their most challenging ordeal yet with the Princess's diagnosis, prompting Kate to appeal for time, space, and privacy as she continues her treatment. The Kensington Palace account on X and Instagram shared a new photo of the couple from their wedding day, taken by photographer Millie Pilkington, stating: "13 years ago today!"
While Hugo Burnand was the couple's official wedding photographer, they also hired Pilkington as a private photographer. Pilkington is also the photographer who captured the recent picture of King Charles and Queen Camilla released last Friday.
Last month, Kate praised William for his support during "an incredibly tough couple of months for our entire family" in an emotional message announcing her health news. "Having William by my side is a great source of comfort and reassurance," she said.
Kate, 42, expressed that her diagnosis came as a huge shock and that she and William "have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family." The prince returned to work following the Easter holidays, during which the Waleses spent quality time with their three children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
Louis celebrated his sixth birthday on Tuesday, and Charlotte turns nine on May 2. William and Kate released an unedited new photo of Louis straight to social media to mark his big day, thanking well-wishers and avoiding the uproar over the princess's digitally altered Mother's Day photo.
The prince is scheduled to carry out engagements in the North East this week, visiting an Earthshot Prize finalist firm that makes low-carbon construction materials in Seaham, and opening James's Place, a centre offering free, life-saving treatment to suicidal men, in Newcastle on Tuesday.
Life partners for more than 20 years, William and Kate met at the University of St Andrews in Scotland and became friends before coming into a relationship. William said in their engagement interview: "Obviously we both have a very fun time together, both have a very good sense of humour about things." The Princess called him a "loving boyfriend" who was "very supportive of me through the good times and also through the bad times."
They wed in a grand ceremony at Westminster Abbey on April 29, 2011, with the aisle lined with trees. The bride wore an intricate ivory gown designed by Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen, while the groom was dressed in the red tunic of the Irish Guards.
William and Kate welcomed their first child, George, in 2013, followed by Charlotte in 2015 and Louis in 2018. They have experienced highs and lows, from the arrival of their children and the celebration of Jubilees to the late Queen's death and more recently the King's cancer diagnosis, while keeping their counsel amid accusations levelled at them by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex following Harry and Meghan's split from the royal family.
