The Heirs to the Thrones of Europe Gathered for Prince Christian of Denmark's Glitzy Birthday Celebration
The 18th birthday of the Danish royal was a star-studded—and tiara-topped—affair.
Nobody does a birthday bash quite like royalty. This weekend, many of the ruling families from all over Europe gathered together at a gala dinner at Christiansborg Palace in Copenhagen to celebrate the 18th birthday of Prince Christian of Denmark. The son of Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary, Christian is second in line for the Danish throne behind his father and grandmother, the current reigning Queen Margrethe. While the British royal family was absent from the celebration, the heirs and future heirs of many of the Scandinavian royal houses, including Princess Ingrid Alexandra of Norway, Princess Estelle of Sweden, and Princess Catharina-Amalia of the Netherlands, joined in the festivities. And fortunately for lovers of all things royal, the formal dresscode for the evening also meant that there were plenty of glamorous gowns and tiaras in attendance.

Christian arrived at the event with his family in tow—his parents, Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary, and his younger siblings, Princess Isabella, Prince Victor and Princess Josephine.
Naturally, Christian's grandmother, Queen Margrethe, was also in attendance. Along with her royal honors, the queen wore the Pearl Poiré Tiara, which was made in 1825 and contains 18 dangling pearls.
Christian's cousin, Princess Athena, joined the party with her parents Princess Marie and Prince Joachim. Last year, Queen Margrethe made the controversial decision to discontinue the titles of her younger son Joachim's branch of the family, meaning that future generations of his descendants will no longer be princes or princesses.
Crown Prince Haakon of Norway, his wife, Crown Princess Mette-Marit and their daughter Princess Ingrid Alexandra were also guests. The ladies opted for complementary ice blue gowns.
Mette-Marit wore a diamond bandeau tiara, while her daughter opted for the Pearl Circle tiara which was given to her from the royal collection for her own 18th birthday. Like Christian, Ingrid Alexandra is second in line to her country's throne.
Sweden's Crown Princess Victoria, her husband, Prince Daniel, and their eldest child, Princess Estelle joined in on the event.
In another mother-daughter moment, the Swedish royal heirs celebrated the occasion in shades of blush. 11 year old Princess Estelle, who is second in line for the throne behind her mother, eschewed a tiara (as a rule, royal ladies don't wear the jeweled headpieces until they're 18) but Victoria wore the Laurel Wreath tiara.
Crown Princess Marie Chantal of Greece got in on the pink trend, along with a diamond topper as she entered the gala with Crown Prince Pavlos.
Princess Amalia of The Netherlands, daughter and heir to King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima attended alongside the Belgian first-in-line Princess Elisabeth, daughter of King Philippe and Queen Mathilde.
Amalia accented her sheer-sleeved purple gown with a tiara set with indigo stones.
Elisabeth, meanwhile, paired her shimmering taupe gown with a delicate diamond tiara and matching drop earrings.
