A seemingly straightforward sex murder investigation by Superintendent Jane Tennison leads to a hidden political scandal.
Film #13 among my 52 Films by Women 2022
Impressed by Helen Mirren's portrayal of Police Superintendent Jane Tennison in the first installment of "Prime Suspect 4," I decided to watch this follow-up directed by veteran TV movie director Sarah Pia Anderson. This time, Tennison investigates a sexually motivated homicide, which turns out to be the tip of the iceberg for scandalous politics. Like its predecessor, the film struck me as a quite average police procedural, made exceptional only by its leading actor. I rate it three stars, okay, but not intriguing enough to make me want to seek out more installments in the long-running series.
Part of my Double Feature Challenge (2)
A solid entry in the Prime Suspect series. While Inner Circles is not as exciting as the previous installments were, it handles the subject of corruption in the police department slightly better than its predecessors did with the more sensitive subjects.
More of a straightforward investigation than any of the previous episodes, which all had an almost existential quality to them. Also the most difficult mystery to understand, even though it is ultimately quite straightforward; plus the whole thing is about a land dispute which, besides a really great scene with the new female cop on Tennison’s team, isn’t really explored for the rich people vs housing estate dynamic it represents and which is established early on.
Вторая серия четвертого сезона. Расследование убийства выводит на мошенничество с куплей-продажей недвижимости. Неплохой детектив с нотками критики в адрес "ёбаных Тори". Миррен хороша, как и всегда.
The fourth series of "Prime Suspect" is different from every other series in that it's three distinct movies instead of one multi-part series. The middle one is the best of the three. A murder occurs in a posh suburb of London, and Mirren is brought in when the local detective inspector cannot be contacted. It looks to be a straightforward case where two young thugs caught in breaking into the house have killed the owner, but Mirren does not believe it and refuses to relinquish the case. British TV produces some of the best police procedurals ever made, and this series is among the best of them.
46/100
Inner Circles starts off a bit slow compared to other prime suspect stories, but is incredibly tense in it's last 30 minutes. Guessing who is the prime suspect was a bit difficult in this one. When you think it is person A it turns out to be Person C. Also, I loved seeing Jane Tennsion resort to somewhat clever but twisted tactics to find the prime suspect.
Not as good as previous ones but still a solid entry. Plus young Kelly Reilly!
The second of three episodes starts a new case about an upper class woman found murdered, but may actually connect to a larger scandal and a convicted felon from Jane’s past. The show starts to go back to its roots as a feminist crime drama, exploring both sides of that world, but the case goes from interesting to derivative.
Helen Mirren is great in this episode from Prime Suspect investigating a death which is not what it seems. Lots of cock-ups and twists add to the plot in this wonderful series.
