Pitch Perfect is like Bring It On crossed with the Step Up movies, flavored with a heavy dose of TV's Glee and the Straight No Chaser boys. I had NO idea what a fantastic movie I was about to watch when I rented PitchPerfect. I was looking for something other than the dark dramas that are the rave the last few years, and I'd just read Anna Kenndrick's IMDb bio, so I had to give this movie a try. What I thought would be an entertaining movie turned out to be an INSTANT addition to the list of my all-time "Best Movies I Ever Saw" list.

PitchPerfect is an extraordinary, sensational musical comedy-drama - a total surprise hit. It has a solid plot, genius blend of actors and actresses that represent the quirks, humor, talent, personality traits that anyone can relate to - blended to present a visually artistic, inspiring, and unforgettable experience for the audience. I have watched the movie almost 30 times already - and each time, it makes me laugh, and feel those warm fuzzies and goosebumps during the outstanding climax.

It is SO hard to find an artistic and inspirational movie these days, especially regarding music and dance, portraying the depth and inspiration of a character who attains the dream of reaching their full potential of their natural talent. This movie delivers that promise with an awe-inspiring, unexpected thrilling cilmax that'll have you cheering, jumping up and dancing with them, sharing in the joy of their success.

I cannot finish my review without mentioning the following worthy "traits" that made this movie such a hit:
1. Rebel Wilson is FANTASTIC, hysterical, lovable - personifying the human nature to overcome one's tendency to feel self-conscious when life hasn't dealt you what society values today. SHE is beautiful, funny, extremely self-confident, and in-touch with herself, exemplifying that we each are special, unique and very worthy if YOU believe you are.
2. Gail and John, the "DJ's" for the Acapella competitions are a total RIOT! Listen carefully to their witty commentary.
3. Anna Kendrick displays yet more of her exceptional talents - not just acting, but what a voice!
4. Aubrey and Chloe - ALL the Barden Bellas have amazing voices! The same goes for the Treble-makers.

I'm so glad they are making a sequel, and so looking forward to it. This movie is sure to be a hit for ANYONE and everyone.

What do you get if you mash together Bring It On and Coyote Ugly? You get something that's oh-so Pitch Perfect. The Barden Bellas are Barden's first-ever, all-girl a cappella singing group that rely on their looks and antiquated pop songs to get by in competition. After a disasterous incident at the previous year's finals, the Bellas are back and looking to redeem themselves. Enter Beca (Anna Kendrick). Beca's is a girl who's ambitions lie more with DJ'ing than in her studies and lucky for the Bellas, Beca can sing. And if she wants to get ahead in school, she'll have to do it a cappella style. Soon she's breathing new life, a different look and a fresh sound in to the struggling girl group. Add a pinch of friendly rivalry with Barden's all-male a cappella group, The TrebleMakers, a dash of flirtation and a bit of raunchy humour and you're ready to be pitch slapped outta this world!

Okay, I wasn't exactly chomping at the bit to see Pitch Perfect mostly based on the fact that I can't stand the show, Glee, but I got bored one night with my Netflix queue and decided to give it a whirl. Let me just tell you something right now ---- I am soooooo happy I did because this movie was AMAZING! Seriously. I don't know what it is about these types of movies but they put me on this weird musical high. Yeah. It's freaking crazy!

But you know what's even crazier? Just how much I liked the movie despite all the wrongness with it. I mean, there was a lot that didn't really work for me but the fact that the good parts were SO good, it pretty much outweighed all of the bad. Ah, the power of musicals. They can do virtually no wrong in my eyes. And I know I'm kinda categorising Pitch Perfect as a musical, but it isn't so in the traditional sense of the term. The majority of the movie isn't spelled out solely via the song and dance numbers, but the heart of the film does lie in its songs. If you remove everything but the musical numbers, you'd still get the overall essense of the movie sans the raunch and quick-wit. So basically, the whole story is told through the music and I'm very much okay with that.

I guess my biggest issue with the film was that the plot was sometimes a little too contrived and some of the chemistry felt forced. For instance, there was an unnecessary love triangle which I totally wasn't buying. In fact, I was even sure it was supposed to be a love triangle. They could've just removed that character and/or bit altogether. Also, much of the raunchier humour (not that there was a lot of it) could've been completely omitted because it just wasn't needed. The movie was funny enough on its own. It was like they were trying to be Bridesmaids only they didn't quite get there.

Be that as it may, I will say that the humour of the film was much more elevated than that of most teen comedies today. The comedy lies in the sharp-tongued characters, the witty dialogue and the fact that it wasn't afraid to poke a bit of fun at a cappella while still managing to make it seem super cool. Pitch Perfect verges on the border of satirical without going all the way there, making it more appealing to the masses. Round it out with amazing ad-libbing from Rebel Wilson (love this girl!), Anna Kendrick, Brittany Snow, Anna Camp and Elizabeth Banks and there's your girl power. Okay, so the guys weren't too bad either.

I'd have to say, though, Pitch Pefect's saving grace was in its performances. What I found most impressive was that these actors weren't trained, professional dancers however each of them could really sing. Anna Kendrick knocked it out of the ballpark here. When the groups performed, sparks flew and the musical mash-ups made the movie so memorable. I immediately downloaded the soundtrack after I watched it which has been on replay all week long, I might add! There really isn't much more I can say other than watch it because I think, like me, you'll be pleasantly surprised!

Food for Thought: Pitch Perfect is a modern musical that takes a cappella music to the next level, giving it a fresh, modern and pitch perfect feel! I could give or take the plot because the musical numbers are what made it so memorable. This movie was one of the biggest surprises for me so far this year and if you like fun, funky, funny films, I think you'll like this one too.

この映画のブルーレイについて、発売されているのは日本語盤と輸入盤がありますが、日本版アマゾンでは両方とも扱っているようです。
日本語盤についてですが、この映画を知ったのはツタヤに行った時のこと。ツタヤ店内で洋画コーナーの新作棚に置いてあったのを発見したのですが、初めて日本国内で流通し始めたのが2015年。本国アメリカでは、2012年に既に公開されていたというのに、なぜ日本では3年も待たなければならなかったのか。これが解せません。

私が日本版アマゾンで買った輸入盤ディスクは、日本語盤よりも値段が安いだけでなく、英語以外の各種西洋の言語による吹き替えと字幕、さらには日本語字幕・日本語吹き替えも収録されています。特典映像にも、日本語字幕はちゃんと付いています（この映画の輸入盤はもう1つあるようですが、値段自体はこれよりも安い代わりに日本語字幕も日本語吹き替えも一切収録されていません。注文の際にはよくよく御注意ください）。
既に述べたとおり、輸入盤ディスクには英語字幕もちゃんと収録されており、英語の勉強をしたいという方には嬉しい内容です。しかも、その音声が5.1chサラウンド、なおかつ DTS-HD MASTER-AUDIO 。日本語吹き替え音声でも DTS 5.1ch サラウンド音声になっています。
日本語以外で収録されている吹き替え音声は、
ドイツ語、フランス語、イタリア語、スペイン語
が、あります。
これらの吹き替え音声を聴き比べてみるのもなかなか面白いですよ。

これに対して日本語盤ディスクに収録されている日本語吹き替え音声は、なんと、ドルビーデジタル2.0chステレオ。
ブルーレイディスクならば、せめて英語版と同じく、「DTS HD Master Audio」にすべきでした。
これのどこがどう問題なのか？
主人公・ベッカが寮内の部屋に入り、ルームメイトのキミー・ジーンと初対面する際に一瞬静かになる場面があります。原語の英語版音声ですと、この時、建物の外で学生たちが楽しそうに騒いでいる声が聞こえてくるのですが、吹替音声だと、この声が一気にかき消されて、ほとんど聞こえなくなってしまうのです。
英語版音声のビットレート数値は 4Mbps を超えるのですが、
吹き替え音声になると、これがたったの 192Kbps 。これじゃ DVD と大して変わりません。
収録されている字幕はというと、日本語だけ。英語字幕は付いていません。
なんとしょぼい・・・。
何でこんな中途半端な仕様にしたの？しかも輸入盤よりも値段が高い。これって何の嫌がらせですか？
輸入盤ディスクと異なり、日本語盤ディスクには劇場予告編が収録されていますが、本国アメリカで公開されてから3年も経って日本で公開した以上、今更予告なんて見せられても・・・といった感じです。

もう1つは、日本語盤と輸入盤は、吹き替え翻訳を担当した人と声優さんがそれぞれ全く違うという点。つまり、それぞれ2つとも持っていれば、個別で吹き替えを楽しめるという点にあります。私は両方とも堪能しました。既に述べたとおり、日本語盤ディスクには英語字幕が収録されていませんので、この映画で英語の勉強をしたいという方は輸入盤を買うといいでしょう。
それと、これは日本語盤と輸入盤とで共通の仕様ですが、映画の性質上、出演者が歌を歌う場面が何度も出てくるのですが、字幕が一切表示されません。大学生同士が歌で対決する「Riff off」のシーンの一部、ならびに主人公たちがクライマックスで最後に披露する歌とダンスのシーンの一部でのみ、字幕が表示されます。
表示されない部分の音声については、残念ながら自分で聞き取って翻訳するしかない、ということでしょう。

輸入盤ディスクが再生できるかについてを参考までに記しておきます。

パナソニックから出ているブルーレイプレイヤー（型番：DMP-BDT170-K）で、ディスクは無事に再生できました。
ちなみにパソコンでも再生できました（私が持っているパソコンにはブルーレイプレイヤーが内蔵されており、ディスクを挿入するだけで無事に本編が始まりました）。
この輸入盤ディスクがもともとリージョンフリーに設定されているのか、それともリージョンコード自体は設定されているけれど、私が持っているブルーレイプレイヤーとたまたま一致しただけなのか・・・は分かりません。
この商品の登録情報（つまり、今あなたがご覧になっているこのページ）を念のために確認すると・・・

リージョンコード：リージョンB

と、あります。
つまり、この輸入盤のディスクはリージョンフリーではない、ということですね。
私が所持しているブルーレイプレイヤーでは問題なく再生できましたので、取り敢えずは安心です。

映画の内容について。

とりあえず、何も考えずに楽しめます。音楽が好き、歌を歌うのが好き、という方なら間違いなく楽しめるでしょう。

「女性蔑視の描写がある」、とかいうレビューが散見されますが、本編のどこにそんな描写がありましたか？
この映画の製作（監督ではなく）はエリザベス・バンクスさんという女性の方です。彼女本人も、この映画の中で役者として出演しています（全米大学アカペラ連盟の実況解説、ゲイル役）。
脚本はケイ・キャノンさんという方で、これまた女の方です。
女性が女性蔑視の作品を作る？そんなことしてどうすんの？それにバンクスさんは、次作『Pitch Perfect 2』で監督を務めています。
下品なセリフと下品な描写なら確かに散見されますが、その点も含めてこの映画を楽しむべきです。バンクスさんは、（彼女へのインタビューを読む限りでは）下品な言葉や言い回しをよく使う女性である、というのは分かりますが、それがどうしたの？
下品さがどうしても受け付けない、という方であれば途中で観るのを止めたくなるかもしれません。が、許容できる人なら問題なく最後まで鑑賞できるでしょう。下品なだけで面白くもなんともない映画なら、それこそ他にもたくさんあるわけでして。
ちなみに、ディスクに収録されている未公開シーンと削除シーンには、本編以上に下品で汚い台詞があります。

映画のクライマックスで、最後に主人公たちが披露する歌とダンスは、観ていて楽しくなれます。『タイム誌』がこの映画について「今すぐ歌って踊りたくなる」と評したように。
私は観ていてとても楽しかったですよ。
