The Padres and Yankees offer a great match-up as Yu Darvish takes on Gerrit Cole. They are two of the top strikeout pitchers in terms of rate over the last five seasons. Cole is at the top of the list, Darvish 11th. Both are extremely good at limiting hits.

The Marlins and Angels both vie for playoffs slots as they meet in Anaheim. Rookie Eury Perez faces Patrick Sandoval. Perez is off to a good start with just eleven hits allowed in 14 innings. All three homers he allowed were solo shots. Sandoval manages to limit hits despite a low strikeout rate. His 20 walks in 49 1/3 innings might be strategic.

The Sunday night game pits the Phillies against the Braves, the Phillies trying to take the series three games to one. Dylan Covey battles Spencer Strider. Covey makes his first start after two relief appearances, one for the Dodgers and one for the Phillies. He spent two years in the Chinese Professional Baseball League where he posted a 3.63 ERA in 198 1/3 innings. Strider struck out 14.21 batters per nine innings since the start of 2022. That two more K per nine than any other pitcher with at least 180 innings pitched.
