In this suspense novel for the CBA market, the author of Dark Moon spins a tale of genetics, biblical archeology and avarice. When engineer Perry Sachs attempts to rescue Dr. Jamison Henri from the hands of a thug, Sachs comes to possess a leather satchel with papers that promise to unveil the location of a great life-changing "treasure" from biblical times. The contents of the satchel send Sachs and his crew into the California desert, where they begin excavation. But when a bitter, smalltown mayor intrudes, the expedition turns into a media circus and leads to murder. Among the bad guys who attempt to hamper operations are some of the henchmen of Dr. Rutherford Straight, a brilliant, wealthy scientist suffering from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a disease he believes can be healed by the "treasure." Straight holds hostage Dr. Henri's wife, Claire, and her 24-year-old savant son, Joseph, whose unusual gifts add intrigue to the story. Their plight poses more ethical questions for Sachs. Although there are some fine moments of suspense, the pacing tends to drag, and the flashback information might have better been used chronologically. The dialogue is too surfeited with clever, sarcastic banter, and a shoot-'em-up scene at the end is a stretch. However, with biblical archeology making the news recently, this latest from Gansky will appeal to some readers of faith.

Alton Gansky is the award-winning author of numerous suspense novels, including A Ship Possessed (a Christy Award finalist), Terminal Justice (winner of an Angel Award from the Hollywood-based organization, Excellence in Media), and he is a speaker. He is a former firefighter and pastor, having served twenty-two years in ministry. His acclaimed novels include A Treasure Deep, Beneath the Ice, the J.D. Alton L. Gansky is the author of 24 novels, 4 novellas, 1 screenplay, and 11 nonfiction works, as well as principal writer of 9 novels and 2 nonfiction books. He has been a Christy Award finalist (A Ship Possessed) and an Angel Award winner (Terminal Justice) and recently received the ACFW award for best suspense/thriller for his work on Fallen Angel. He holds a BA and MA in biblical studies and was granted a Litt.D. He lives in central California with his wife.

Gansky writes books for the Christian market.

He has hosted Writer's Talk video podcast and is now cohost of Firsts in Fiction, a video podcast for up and coming writers

Good suspense! Imaginative concept!

I won't rehash the details of the other reviews, so I'll just say I found the concept of the treasure and its location quite imaginative. I think one thing that happens in the end is sad, but makes a strong point. The characters are varied and interesting with the antagonists and their ruthlessness being ultimately counterproductive to their goal. After the story ended I thought to myself, "Why didn't they just ask?" What exactly am I talking about? To find that out you'll have to ride Mr. Gansky's freight train of suspense and action. From the special savant, Joseph, to the incredibly powerful Alex Olek, you will enjoy this book. The changing relationship between Perry Sachs and the mayor is just one of the interesting character relationships in the book. Give this one a read -- you won't be sorry. I leave you with -- Perry...uhh! :)

It's fiction, not Christian fiction

I consider Mr. Gansky to be a good writer, however, he has a major problem with Christian fiction. This should be called fiction. Period. No literature style should ever violate God's word. And he did it again. That was exactly what I said in his other book "By My Hands".
I gave it 3 stars because for the first 80% of the book he kept the readers in the dark with a mystery that was going to rock the foundations of the earth. Well, 80% is too long to keep "the mystery" especially when the mystery doesn't keep you at the edge of your seat. This is not a book that you can't put down. I was very disappointed to find out what the mystery was.
Everything happened in the last 20% of the book.
The end was a joke, seriously. It was supposed to be the climax of the story but turned out to be rather awkward. Mr. Gansky had an overly developed imagination to conceive the mystery but fell very short ending the story.
I think this is it for me with the writer.

I read this book soon after first published before the two following books in the series. I reread again to re-acquaint myself with the story. I am about to read the other 2 books in the series for the first time. I absolutely love how Alton tells such an amazingly exquisite story using such simple language. My typical occupational reading as a scientist is extremely complex and technical. So these wonderfully captivating, simple language, pleasure reading books keep my coming back to.my second favorite author. Sorry Alton it is Frank.

I didn't want to put this book down. The mystery and the characters keep you wanting to know...what is Joseph drawing and how does this connect to the treasure. There is a wonderful connection between Perry and his crew and you can really feel the love that Jesus has for them and Anne. The treasure really does make you think...what if....What would you do, if you found the TREASURE?

This is the first of 3 books. The story involves historical fiction with the current day solving of the mystery. The characters were well developed. I found myself wanting the good guys to win. The author put effort into making the villain despicable and me hoping he would lose.

I have all three of the Perry Sacks books.....very interesting, keeps you reading, hard to lay down. He is a Christian the books do not labor the fact but you can tell by remarks that just go with the flow of the story. The details of the geographic location make you feel as if you are there. I do not like to give details of the book to readers, just know it is always interesting and stirring the mind.

I would recommend this book to anyone, certainly because it is another excellent effort by Mr. Gansky, and I have learned that his works are well researched, very descriptive, with a sensible progression, and deft use of humor. As a believer, it spoke to my heart and gave voice to the yearning of a believer to be even closer to Christ. It offered a wealth of material for anyone to hunger for a relationship with Christ.
