Gascoigne is one of the most recognisable football players in the world also named the most naturally talented midfielder of his generation. Affectionately known as Gazza, he was best known for his flair, talent and great goals. A hardworking attacking midfielder was praised by some of the most well known managers in the game. In a massively successful career he played for teams such as Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur, Lazio & Glasgow Rangers as well as earning 57 caps for England. Outside of football Gazza has published 3 autobiographies, a successful documentary and recorded the 1990 pop hit Fog on the Tyne with Lindisfarne. Paul has received many football honours including PFA Young player of the year 1988, BBC Sports personality of the year 1990, 4th place Ballon D’Or 1990, SFWA Footballer of the Year 1996. While having plenty of adversity in his personal life Gazza continues fighting back and remaining one of the best English Midfielders of all time.

International Career
Gazza had a great start to his international career at the World Cup in Italy, as England had their most successful tournament since 1966. In an iconic scene in the semi final against West Germany, he picked up a yellow card, meaning he would of been suspended for the final. West Germany won the match on penalties, but perhaps the most memorable image of the tournament was the close-up of Gazza using his shirt to wipe away tears following that his booking while being surrounded by senior players. His performances in the tournament led to huge press coverage on his arrival home and won BBC Sports Personality of the Year! While part of Terry Venables’ England team at Euro 1996, Gazza scored a memorable ‘flick and volley’ goal against Scotland. His famous celebration, with team-mates spraying water in his mouth was in response to the tabloid reports of off-pitch drunkeness and questioning his place within the England team. Gascoigne helped England qualify for the 1998 FIFA World Cup and in total he won a total of 57 England caps and scored 10 goals.
