MASSENA -- Jane E. Cross of Elm Street, Massena, NY passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning, April 30, 2024, at Massena Memorial Hospital with her husband of 68 years, Reggie, by her side.
The family has entrusted arrangements to Phillips Memorial Home, Massena.
A Funeral Mass for Jane will be held 11:00 am on July 27, 2024, at the Church of The Sacred Heart in Massena.
No public calling hours will be held at this time.
Jane was born to the late Douglas E. and Abbie (Boswell) Martin in Gabriels, NY on August 14, 1932.
Jane grew up on the family potato and Christmas Tree Farm. She had fond memories of the farm animals and the views of Whiteface Mountain from the picture window.
She attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Malone, NY graduating in 1949.
She continued her education at the A. Barton Hepburn Hospital and Nursing School in Ogdensburg, NY where she obtained her Registered Nursing license.
She met her husband in Massena and was married to Reginald Cross on November 19, 1955, at Church of the Assumption Catholic Church in Gabriels, NY.
She began her nursing career at Massena Memorial Hospital in 1951. Later in 1974 she was a Supervisor at the St. Regis Nursing Home in Massena where she worked for over 13 years, until retiring in 1987.
She later volunteered her time after retirement with Hospice & Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley.
Jane and Reggie were proud hockey parents who enjoyed travelling.
They spent 25 winters in Venice FL with a large Massena crew and golf buddies. As a family they travelled to Cape Cod with the 3 kids and later with the grandchildren.
She was passionate about her home and spent many happy hours on her front porch enjoying the plants and the garden.
Jane is survived by her husband, Reginald Cross of nearly 69 years, and their devoted children, Maureen Cross of Manhattan, NY, Michael R. (Kathy) Cross of Essex Junction, VT and Tom A. (Kelly) of Simsbury, CT. Jane is also survived by her loving five grandchildren; Katie (Keith) Walcott of Essex Junction, VT, Abbie (Chris) O’Connor of South Burlington, VT, Jackie Cross of Canton, CT, Tommy (Alaina) Cross of Middletown, RI and Andrea (Jack) Spencer of West Hartford, CT. along with five great-great-grandchildren; Grady, Connor, Oakley, Bowen and Baylor. Jane is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by two sisters, Adelaide Keetz and Patricia Manning.
