Lovely church, but they all seem to be. It was in the process of some restoration, so we could only see part of it. Nice stop.

Amazing museum with multiple rooms. Keep pulling on doors to find new exhibits as they are not all well marked. Beautiful viewpoint from the top,of the observation tower.

Passau is a delightful city on the Danube. We went there to begin a river cruise, but wandered around the town stopping in churches and walking through parks and along the River. (We recommend walking along the Inn River, which is on the other side of town from the Danube where all the cruise ships dock.) Most shops were closed because we were there on Sunday, but the town is beautiful!

It is a beautiful church. The inside of the church was cool, comfortable, and charming. It is not overloaded with baroque ornamentation. I recommend a visit.

Travelled with my spouse on our first "Bike and Barge" tour for 7 days from Passau to Budapest (8 days) aboard the Swiss Crown. Weather was very favourable for a trip of this design; average distances cycled were 43-53 km per day.
    The Plus Side:
The ship and its crew were great. The ship itself was in good condition, clean and quite elegant. The staff of Swiss Crown were all very pleasant and worked very hard to meet our needs.
The food was amazing and exceeded our expectations.
The Itinerary was reasonable but very busy. Indeed you can't expect to thoroughly visit a city like Budapest or Vienna in 8 hours. So you have to be satisfied with a sample of their culture, history and architecture.
The ride on bikes and the equipment was excellent. Unparalleled beauty and scenery. The path conditions were pretty good for the most part, with the occasional stretch on a road, highway or bridge that is unavoidable.
The Rad Reisen app with navigation was a very useful and helpful tool.

    Areas for Improvement:
Mirrors would be helpful on the bikes, since e-bikes are quite heavy it is easy to loose control when looking over your shoulder.
Signage and directions could be improved. Although we used our app extensively, it was reassuring to see a Rad Reisen sign on a post occasionally.
ALL water on board the Swiss Crown was for purchase ONLY, excluding breakfast. Unless you purchased water either individually or as part of a 21.50 euros per person package, you could not have water in the dining room. Even though tap water was completely potable. Come on folks, this is a basic human need. People should not be denied free water in a resort type restaurant, or any restaurant, when they are eating. This is a choking hazard!!
Finally, the Cruise Director, Nina............From the first day I found her to be sharp with many guests, blunt, arrogant and perhaps even rude. She pressured us to play a trivia game at dinner. When we indicated that we didn't want to, she snatched up her paper and pen and stormed away. We found her to be inflexible at times; if we changed our minds about a decision or approached her about something it had to suit her schedule or we would be ignored. Daily cycling briefings were often vague, disjointed, and unclear. Often people would ask questions and she would be defensive or simply ignore them. I think it would be helpful if she would take a softer pleasant approach with customers and maybe also if she would review her presentations and make them a little more comprehensive for the non-German speaking crowd.

All in all, a very satisfying tour. I realize that no tour/trip is perfect, but their are areas in which we can all improve upon.

This is a pilgrimage church on the other side of the river from Passau which affords amazing view of Passau. There are two ways up. You either walk up Mariahilf Straße all the way up the hill (or drive up and there’s a car park 100 m further on, or a bus) or you climb up the 321 covered pilgrims steps on KapuzinerPlatz . These steps take you up and up and turn into a prayer climb including stations of the cross and “thank” gifts (plaques and rosaries) left by people whose prayers have been answered. A beautiful church at the top and a little walk outside the church . No amenities like drinks when we went (obviously there are toilets) but this is a must visit to get views across Passau from outside the monastery gates

An unexpected day in Passau from a river cruise because of low water levels gave us the opportunity to visit this castle. Perched above the town, the views were fantastic.
The exhibits show various aspects of the Bavarian development and follow one after another from woodworking tools of the builders to weapons and armour. Some knowledge of German is helpful in understanding the exhibits.

A great walk or cycle for those that wish to see the river Inn. It’s a great comparison to the river Danube only a few minutes away. We learned the difference between the two... of there are cruise boats it’s the Danube, if there are not, it’s the Inn.
It was a sunny and cold day for us, perfect for walking and culture.
From the cathedral, this is only about 2 minutes walk from.

From an unassuming entrance, we were directed to a lift to the fourth floor and then walked through gallery after gallery packed with glassware. All tastes were catered for from C18 to early C20. I was interested to see the large pieces made for the 1851 Crystal Palace and other major exhibitions. Also, the room with Art Nouveau included some exquisite pieces.

Not to be missed is a ceiling painting as you walk up to a gallery on the top floor. Original to the building, my guess would be eighteenth century.

Maybe we missed something, but we could only find the exit by walking down through all of the galleries. After a while, the quality fell and our feet were getting tired.

This little park is perfectly situated to see the confluence of the Danube and Inn rivers. It is an easy walk from old town Passau, walking along the Inn is particularly pretty.

You can see the castle from all areas of the city. Cross the bridge, and walk up a cobblestone road to the top. About a 15 minute walk with a moderate grade. The views from the top of Passau and the surrounding areas are beautiful. Did not enter the actual museum or the paid tower, but the grounds and paths to the lookout are wonderful.

Hidden gem of a museum showing the Roman fort and the monks cell that was build on top. Well done displays and virtual reality enhancements made the various eras understandable.
