Palazzo Madama - an incredible treat

I wandered into the Palazzo Madama without knowing too much about it. What an incredible experience awaited me. Built upon the remnants of a medieval castle, each floor of the Palazzo Madama contained something unique. I did not take an organized tour, but simply wandered through the palace. Not to be missed!!!!

Beautiful museum with nice view

This is the real central point of Turin. The building is the mixture of styles and epochs. The baroque facade of Juvarra and the medieval castle on the other side. You can find inside the Civic Museum of Ancient Art. Interesting collections of medieval and renessaince paintings with the most famous Antonello da Messina, superb rooms. On the top nice view. Do not miss it.

Worthwhile visit!

This Palace embraces the entire history of the city of Turin, it was created as a Roman Gate.
Since 1934 the Palace has housed the antique art collections of the Museo Civio.
*Audio guides are available along with detailed sheets along the itinerary.
*visitors with disabilities, audio guides for the visually impaired.
*Medieval garden and panoramic tower with assisted access, there are tactile maps and drawings available upon request.
*Guide dogs welcome

There is free admission to the Bookshop.

You will be required to store bags and backpacks in a individual secure locker.
Cameras are allowed photos can be taken without a flash.

There are four main sections
Decorative arts are in three galleries, the maiolica and porcelain room.
The atelier room and glass room with extraordinary painted and gilded glass collection donated by Marquis Emanuel Taparelli d’AZeglio.

Baroque, 17th and 18th century collections are exhibited in the former royal dowagers along a chronological itinerary through different styles.

Gothic and Renaissance, sculptures,paintings,and precious objects from the period 13-16th centuries.
Middle Ages the chronological itinerary of stone sculpture in Piedmont from the Twelfth to Thirteenth century.
The Medieval garden can be visited outside this level.

My favourite was seeing the beautiful porcelain.

A cafe is located on site.

Highly recommend a visit to Palazzo Madama.

A Must-See in Torino

Palazzo Madama, prominently located on Turin's main square, is a pleasant place to visit. One can easily spend two to three hours there, leisurely strolling from room to room, exhibit to exhibit. Besides the usual Palazzo features and offerings, there usually are other events/showings happening, for a small, additional fee. For instance, when I went, there was a special showing of renowned paintings on loan from several Russian museums and art galleries. Among others, some of the works included: "Female head. Study, c. 1876", by Pierre August Renoir; "The Birth of Venus", 1732, by Noël-Nicolas Coypel; and "Haystack in Giverny", 1886, by Claude Monet. However, the most memorable feature of Palazzo Madama, for me, is its monumental staircase, at the entrance, constructed from 1718 to 1721, designed by Filippo Juvarra, architect. It is so beautiful and impressive that it takes my breath away.

interesting displays

We should have visited Palazzo Madama earlier in our trip to Turin as we didnt leave enough time to experience the attraction on our last day. Having visited the Egyptian museum in the morning and then the Turin Shroud museum (which we should have skipped )there wasnt much time to explore. It was very busy as a special promotion that day and people were getting in for reduced fee. Only had time for the garden, and to go up in the lift to see the amazing view and a quick visit to the impressive religious art and porcelain collection.

Excellent museum

Rivaling the Palace museum next door, the Madama has a LOT to see, even if it's on a slightly smaller scale. Like next door, it's worth seeing the beautiful palace rooms and building even if the displays aren't to your taste. There is a lot of ecclesiastical art, but don't let that put you off. Buy the museum card to get the best rate.

An absolute must while in Turin

A palace chosen by Madama Reale Cristina di Francia, regent for her young children, fused with the Savoia-Acaja Castle above the Porta Decumana of Roman times, and later inhabited by the second Madama Reale, Maria Giovanna Battista di Savoia Nemours, who called Juvarra to redo the palace in the Baroque fashion still present today, while leaving the posterior older part intact. It is the gravitational center of Turin and one of its most identifiable symbols. The grand escaliers bring to the upper apartments, where splendid collections of the Museum of Ancient Art are housed. Not a place to be missed.

Beautiful palace

Beautiful square with Savoy palace at the center. It is worth seeing while you are in Turin. Unfortunately Palazzo Madama is currently being restored so you can’t see the facade.

Very special building and exposition

Amazing place to visit alone or with family or friends.
Many nice pieces of glaced ceramic, bass-reliefs, high-reliefs and many paintings.

Impressive building but no description in English

The building is really impressive and the collection amazing, but what we really missed are descriptions of the artefacts in English - Turin is a city attracting a lot of tourists, therefore English translation should be available.
