Oldfields School Reviews
Rating 4.31 out of 5 105 reviews
Oldfields School announced its permanent closing on 04/19/23. The quality of the school has gone downhill since we first attended in 2021. Academics are mediocre at best. We struggled every year to find classes academically challenging, only to hire a tutor in order to teach the class correctly. Not many of the teachers are credentialed to teach. While we acquiesced to the academics side for the school’s so called “elite” riding program, we found the organization to be disorganized, expensive, and mismanaged. We spent close to $25k and my daughter attended a total of 2 shows the entire year; none of which were rated. The School’s bolstered social media and website are littered with nothing but fake news. Socially, there isn’t a lot to offer students either. Only one unadvertised mixer and a prom poorly attended. Physically the school is falling apart and at a price tag if $60k+, the Super 8 motel is a better dormitory. The school plans to remain open Fall of 2023…BUYER BEWARE!
It is an amazing place that my daughter enjoyed very much. She truly found her voice and got to experience so many things (international students, travel, diverse thinking, arts) that she would have never even dreamed of in another school.
I was a 7-day boarder at OS for 5 years. I thrived socially and academically at OS. Longer class times and fewer classes each day meant I could be mentally present rather than constantly trying to shift gears, and class activities were engaging. "Office Hours" are built into the middle of every school day, getting students comfortable approaching instructors with questions (great for uni-bound students). I didn't love req. team sports, but my soccer coach ran with us until the last person (usually me) finished. I wasn't athletic, but she didn't let me underestimate myself and slack off or quit. She taught me perseverance and that there's satisfaction in doing challenging things.
In college, I was comfortable studying and living independently. More than anything, the OS faculty gave me invaluable emotional support, they were there for me, and I learned that I have people who care about me. 8+ years on, my mentor and I still communicate.
I unequivocally recommend Oldfields School.
