HALF: BYU 24, OSU 6

Here's a look at the first-half stats:

Second quarter: BYU adds field goal for 18-point halftime lead

After executing a fake punt to perfection, BYU got into OSU territory and added a field goal for a 24-6 lead with 37 seconds left until halftime.

Oklahoma State had appeared to force a punt, but BYU punter Ryna Rehkow threw to tight end Tyler Batty for a 36-yard gain with the tackle being made by punt returner Brennan Presley.

OSU was not able to do anything with the ensuing possession and went to halftime down by 18.

BYU will get the ball to start the second half.

Second quarter: BYU takes 21-6 lead on OSU

A quick handoff to receiver Keelan Marion went for an 11-yard touchdown run for a 21-6 BYU lead.

That’s 21 straight points for BYU after falling behind 6-0.

BYU had reached third-and-long deep in its own territory but got two long pass plays to keep the drive alive.

Second quarter: BYU pick-six extends lead on OSU

OSU quarterback Alan Bowman and receiver Jaden Bray were not on the same page as Bowman fired a pass to the right, but Bray kept running as the ball was intercepted behind him.

BYU defensive back Eddie Heckard easily intercepted the pass and ran 13 yards for the touchdown, giving the Cougars a 14-6 lead early in the second quarter.

Second quarter: Cowboys turn ball over on downs

After coming up short on third-and-1 at the 49-yard line, OSU had a miscommunication in the backfield that led to a busted play and a turnover on downs with BYU leading 7-6.

OSU quarterback Alan Bowman turned to his left, sticking the ball out for a potential handoff, but running back Ollie Gordon II ran to Bowman’s right. It was unclear which player was in the wrong, but Bowman had to throw the ball away, giving it to BYU at midfield.

First quarter: BYU takes lead with touchdown

BYU quarterback Jeff Retzlaff’s 2-yard touchdown run got the Cougars on the board and in the lead with a 7-6 edge over Oklahoma State at the 1:24 mark of the first quarter.

The nine-play, 73-yard drive primarily involved run plays aided by poor tackling by the OSU defense.

First quarter: Quick takeaway, another field goal for OSU

Oklahoma State safety Trey Rucker recovered a BYU fumble and the Cowboy offense converted it into a 20-yard field goal for a 6-0 lead at the 8:48 mark of the first quarter.

BYU mishandled an option pitch and Rucker dove on the ball at the BYU 19-yard line.

OSU threw one pass, then ran Ollie Gordon II four straight times, with the drive stalling at the 3. Hale hit his second field goal of the day and his 26th of the season. He is two shy of the OSU record for made field goals in a season, held by Quinn Sharp.

First quarter: Oklahoma State scores first

Oklahoma State got off to a fast start, but stalled just outside the red zone on its opening drive, taking a 3-0 lead on BYU with Alex Hale’s 40-yard field goal.

Ollie Gordon II had two rushes for 29 yards and Brennan Presley had two receptions for 19 yards, but the Cowboys couldn’t convert a third-and-short just outside the 20-yard line.

Pregame: Jaden Bray improving, Elijah Collins still out

Oklahoma State will continue to be thin at running back but otherwise, the team’s health is strong for late November.

Backup running back Elijah Collins will be out for the third straight game because of an ankle injury, OSU radio voice Dave Hunziker reported during the pregame show.

Hunziker reported that receiver Jaden Bray, who played minimally off the bench last week, is “closer to 100%” as he works his way back from an undisclosed injury that kept him out for three games. Bray returned last week and caught a touchdown pass, appearing for eight snaps.

Behind starter Ollie Gordon II, the Cowboys have speedster Jaden Nixon and true freshman Sesi Vailahi, who has appeared in one game this season.
