Oingo Boingo

AKA: Boingo and The Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo

About Oingo Boingo

Oingo Boingo was an American rock band from Los Angeles, California led by singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Danny Elfman. Originally formed in 1972 as a musical theater troupe called The Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo, the group shifted towards focusing exclusively on music (specifically ska and new wave) in the 1980s. Their music was characterized by heavy use of a three-piece horn section, complex melodic structures, and heavily Tex-Mex-inspired imagery. Though mainstream success eluded them for the majority of their recording career, Elfman’s subsequent, award-winning career as a film composer has led to the band’s enduring posthumous popularity.
